Looking into my crystal ball, most likely one of two things have happened:

1. They used, a really cheap bottom dollar oil filter. These filters have known issues with restrictions and collapsing internals that can cause problems exactly like you describe. This is why we recommend a filter from Purolator, WIX, Mopar, and other reliable brands. Replacing it with a good unit like a NAPA Gold will fix this. (Don't forget to top off the oil! Some will dribble when you remove the old filter.)

2. If that doesn't improve the situation, they likely smashed the oil pressure sending unit. It's right above the filter and easy to damage. Pretty common. You can rent or borrow a gauge to test the oil pressure by screwing it in to where the sensor went. The sensor is removed with just a basic wrench for this, nothing fancy. If it shows pressure to your liking then you can feel confident that buying a new sensor is all you need.

Uuuuurrgh why do people still use that ****. Literally the only use for Lucas stabilizer in a street-driven vehicle is to make the oil pressure look high enough so you can dump it on an unsuspecting buyer...

I will ask you to look at the oil filter and describe it to us, either the name that's on it or at least the color.
Yup.. them's some golden nuggets for sure!!! And if you're too intimidated to go into a NAPA - you can pick up the MOPAR filter at your local WalMart - Part # : MO090

If you need it, of course. It may have a good filter on it already, but we don't know yet.

Default 96+ Stock Camshaft in Renix Block

Stock cam okay with you?

Would like to use 96+ stock cam with the dual profile in order to make good torque at lower rpm range. Would I just need to use the timing set for 87-90 Renix for this?

Will be selling the entire top end off the Renix engine if anyone near me is interested. 166k on it

Damit, I have 5. Guess its time to look for new spring packs. Any way to tell what size lift, or brand I have? It's got rancho 9000 shocks too so I was guessing a rough country 3". Front tire measurement is 20.75" center of axle to fender.

Default Oil Pressure Sending Unit

Recently picked up a '90 XJ for my daughter and have been cleaning and fixing it for her. Oil pressure gauge is showing "pegged" at 80+. No problem, it's typically the sending unit right? Ordered a new one online Crown # J3132826. Got it and it doesn't look like the old one, much smaller. Don't know if what is installed is original or not so I went ahead and installed the new one - still pegged out at 80+. Stays there, even after turning engine off. It will go back to zero if you turn the key on without cranking it.
Next step?
Research seems to say it's USUALLY not the gauge, but what's left at this point?

How much oil is in it? Was it overfilled? Just another area to check.

The smaller one is for dummy lights. The larger one is for the full gauge, but your original sender may be bad. You can rent a mechanical gauge to verify it.

I may end up doing that, but is it even possible for it to be that high? 175k on the odometer. I know as they get older and worn out oil pressure drops, but can something cause it to actually run that high?

That's what I thought, so checking it with a mechanical gauge won't really solve my issue.
What else do I need to check to fix why it's showing so high?
