Okay so here is my issue i have a 1998 jeep Cherokee sport 4x4 4L straight 6
My problem is my turn signals don't work at all but the hazards do..(go figure) my friend is a car junkie and has been helping me out...we went to the jeep dealer service center and it was a 100 dollars an hour to just figure out what was wrong then when they finally tell us whats going on it came out to 1000$
(i don't know about the rest of you but i don't have that kind of money to spend on a junk car)..so the service dept gave us a list of things that could be wrong ..and we were going to replace them ourselves. well we replace the turn signal switch (oem) the clock spring (oem) the flasher unit and the gauge cluster plugs (oem) and i still have this issue ...the only thing that worked was that it fixed my horn and cruise control...and we checked all the fuses everywhere and all are in good condition and replaced the bulbs in the gauge unit in the dash....me and my friend cant figure it out ..and we would like a push in the right direction without paying a arm and leg to replace everything at a dealer.....HELP ASAP

Hello everyone. I'm new to Cherokee Forum and only have minor knowledge of mechanics. I have a 99' cherokee with the 4.0 in it. Right now I have a 4" lift with chopped fenders with 32X11.5 tires. I want to put a locker in the rear as well as put steeper gears. Eventually I want to go higher with the lift and put 33X12.5 tires on. Any suggestions on the gears or the best locker?
You don't need another inch of lift to clear 33s I have 33x12.50s on 4.5" and I know guys with less lift and 33x12.50s
Lockers - its all really personal preference. Depends if you want selectable, lunch box, auto, lsd, spools, mini spools, welded spiders....
I like OX or ARB for selectables, and detroits for autos, not sure I really like lunchboxes, i hate lsd's. Spools are great for trail rigs, minispools are okay, welded spiders are cheap and when it finally blows up you're pretty much effed unless you have a whole new carrier.

When I go over large stuff my fenders cut my tires. Also, what's the difference in the lockers? I realize selectables are either air or cable, but what about the others? Thank you for your help. Also, how do I get my Jeep pic over there <------------

Also, I beleive I have a Dana 30 in the front and a Chrysler 8.25 in the rear. The rear appears to be more oval than the Dana 35 and it isn't stamped anywhere. It's a factory rear end and I'm told that it hass 3.55 gears. Anyway to check? Any help would be appreciated.

Selectables can also be electric. You're gonna have to ask someone with more experience about auto lockers lol. Not exactly sure how those work, lunchbox lockers work the same way as far as I know. Spools replace the whole carrier and lock the axleshafts together all the time no matter what unless you break it. Minispools are the same thing only they take the place of the spiders gears only, instead of the whole carrier. Welded spiders is exactly that, you weld the spider gears together so they can differentiate(same effect as a minispool only not as strong).
Change your avatar - the gray bar at the top of the page, all the way on the left side will be "User CP" click on that, then on the left side of that page click on "Edit Avatar" and there you go.
If you have and auto tranny then you have 3.55 gears. The 8.25 rear end has a big flat flange on the bottom of the housing, it's very easy to tell.

Did you put in bump stops? Thank you for your help with the lockers. How hard is it to change out your gears? Also, how do I quote someone?

30mph and running at 4000rpms...Ive asked a few different questions since I joined the forum. My jeep is falling apart on me. I just turned it on and it started revving real high, sounded like it was getting ready to buck on me. I turned it off and back on....and had to go 35mph the whole way home because the rpms were real high.
Heres what has been happening lately:
I turn my car on and drive out of the driveway when I hit the accelerator it feels like it bogs down a little and I have to hit the gas again and then it goes...
Also, every now and then when I'm idling it will sound like someone is hitting the gas and revving it up, sometimes it starts running crappy and bucks on me at stop lights. 2 days ago it bucked on me and then stalled out.
As I said at the beginning, just now the rpms have been crazy--and revving on
I did a tune up today, and the 02 sensors are new. This thing just keeps getting worse..
Please please please I need help. Thanks guys!

Gears aren't that hard to change if you know what you're doing. If you don't have a clue, pay a shop to do it, cause you could seriously end up FUBAR and in need of new gears or new axle guts.
Bottom right hand corner of the post you want to quote, click the quote button.
You're welcome bro!
The thing that makes your turn signal blink on and off is called a thermal flasher. I'm not exactly sure where it is, but I'd guess that could be your problem, unless you aren't getting any voltage to the thermal flasher. Have you and your friend done any voltage checks?

IAT (intake air temperture) sensor
Hey all,
I'm relocating the IAT(1990 cherokee 4.0 inline) to the airbox and I had a question. I want to get this done today so I dont want to order anything. The sensor is a little gunked up. What can I use to clean this without trashing it? Or would it be better to replace with new? Would parts stores carry something like this?

First time here, so I'm probably not in the right place to ask a question... Came out this morning after a very heavy rain, drivers side window was open a few inches and interior was wet. The car high beams were on and would not shut off even though the keys were not in the car. No matter what switches I played with, could not shut the lights off - everything else was normal. Headlight/highbeam switch was wet from rain, dried it with hair drier, highbeams still on. finally pulled the highbeam fuses to shut them off, but don't want to be without highbeams forever. Any thoughts?
