Gimmick!
Get the right amount of tension on the belt and you shouldnt need it.

That's descriptive.

Rule of thumb is that you shouldn't be able to twist the longest stretch of the belt 90°

Anyone know what size the pinion bolt is on an 88' d35? Wondering if it's just a normal bolt or one of those star bolts (not torx)

On my 94 it was 1 & 1/8 if im not mistaken.

I'm afraid you won't find much support here for the VM 2.5TD, as this is primarily a North American site and that engine was never sold here.

I checked some diagrams and it sounds like you're referring to the lower radiator hose. The water pump sits up high on the left side of the engine (right hand side if you look at it from the front) and bolts into a water manifold that runs down the same side.

Hoses are a regular wear item, as are the clamps. The OE part number for that hose is 52028407AC

Okay I guess for V belts

Bad for modern serpentine belts.

If you're having trouble with a squealy belt, remember new belts need to be retightened periodically as the rubber stretches during the first few hours of runtime. Personally I don't do the deflection test business... I just tighten it until the squeal's gone. No need to destroy pulleys and bearings.

Also a lot of people (including me) love the Goodyear Gatorback belt.

Pinion NUT perhaps? Regular six-sided nut. Probably 1-1/8" to 1-1/4" range. Same as the other D35s

Sorry, someone else's post had me confused. I meant the cross pin bolt that goes into the carrier holding the cross pin. I know some are regular nuts

Ah! D35 cross pin bolt is either 6mm or 1/4"

When changing a T stat, should one use just the gasket? Or the gasket ad RTV stuff? Or just the RTV stuff?

I use the gasket and a light layer of rtv to hold it against the thermo housing while I install it. If you use too much rtv it can get inside the thermostat area and prevent flow. I also give it about an hour to cure after installing the bolt just over finger tight, then finally torque it down. Then I wait another hour before adding fluid to make sure it has set.

So my front end has developed this new noise that sounds like peddling backward on a bike or like dragging a chain, and it's only related to speed getting louder the faster I go. There's nothing I can se that would rattle or hit the driveshaft.
Think my front axle is on the way out?
