XJ Ask the Question Thread
Beach Bum
I need new tires for my 94 Sport but am strapped for cash. I was told that I need 215 75 15. I can purchase a very slightly used set of 215 70 15 tires at a huge discount. I think this will lower my truck by 1/2 - 1". I was also researched that they might hold less weight. Is there anything else I should be concerned about? Are these two things worth worrying about if they fall within my budget? Any insight would certainly be appreciated.
Thanks,
Woody
Thanks,

The load rating will be fine. My 'P' tires 31" are rated for 2100 pounds each. Flotation tire in the same size is 2300 pounds.

2001 Xj 175,000 miles, no lift. Had my first death wobble yesterday. My track bar bushing had 1/8 side play when turning. Old guy at alignment shop that was the problem. New Moog track bar and problem solved. Don't get a Chinese track bar they last about a year.

Last week while out of town, I get the text from my daughter they her Jeep won't move anymore when in drive unless she revs it up high. I had her park it until I got home. Turned out transmission cooler line had made contact with the harmonic balancer and drained it completely.
This happened on her way home. Initially I was under the impression maybe 1/2 mile from home. I replaced the hose and filled it up, drove it around the block and all seemed fine.
This week I get home and she tells me it will barely make it up the hill unless she floors it. Also I found out it was more like two miles that she drove it home after all the fluid drained out.
Is the tranny likely toast, or fixable (other than a rebuild)?
Found another freshly wrecked '90 XJ locally that I'm probably going to pick up fairly cheap in anticipation of replacing the tranny, but thought I would check in here first.

Ive done used tires when in a bind, never had an issue. Just make sure the will ballance without a **** ton of weight. I personally would look around for people taking new tires off for larger ones.

Make sure how old the tires are unless maybe they're just for off-road only.

On moderate to sharp turns my lockright in my Dana 30 almost sounds like it's grinding and I can even feel it in the floor board. It is used, would y'all just get a rebuild kit for it or is there something else I can do?
Thanks guys

Stumbles, hard to accelerate while climbing hills. Doesn't really feel like it's hard shifting though, more like a near total loss of power.
$40 sounds better than the $500ish I might spend on the wrecked XJ to use as a donor. However I can potentially get a non-ripped drivers seat, stronger wiper motor, fuel pump/sending unit, spare set of wheels with new tires, etc. out of it before sending it to a JY for $250 back...

Level is fine, warm or cold...

I traced issue after issue and probably spent a wasted 2-300 bucks on a 150 dollar job.

Maybe I should temporarily ignore the tranny as a possibility? If that had not happened first, I would be more inclined to look at it from a fuel delivery issue.

More like a hesitation when you press the gas, or a lack of response/no power climbing slight inclines. Maybe coincidental, but just started after she drove it home approx. 2 miles after losing all the tranny fluid. Maybe I should temporarily ignore the tranny as a possibility? If that had not happened first, I would be more inclined to look at it from a fuel delivery issue.

Adjust throttle valve cable and test TPS. It's possible some damage was caused that threw off the normal parameters, or a coincidence.
By any chance have you considered another drain & fill? I imagine there's some crap in there after that abuse.
