its not the reservoir its the hose connecting to this area
leaking and bubbling at the rad cap area. Simply clamp?

on the 96 XJ, is the aux fan supposed to come on when the a/c is switched on? My a/c system is now empty.
I pulled the coolant temp sensor and the fan cuts on just not any other situation. Engine only goes up to 210-215 according to gauge on dash.

By that you mean, when I switch the ac on the fan is supposed to come on? Even without the ac compressor clutch engaging?
Went to dealership for ac fix and they said they bypassed the thermistor. Pulled dash apart and no wires anywhere looked tapped, nor under the hood. Just trying to narrow down where to look, every chance I get I'm peeking around. Either its a bad compressor or relay I'm dealing with.

Yes to the first part. As for the second part I don't know for certain but I would think it's possible. There is some way to make the a/c compressor come on even if empty but I'm not sure how.

I don't think 96 uses an orifice tube.

Oh. This thread is not good for ongoing assistance, just for one-off questions.
Sounds like the sending unit works fine. Was that taken off the one in the thermostat housing (PCM ECT sensor) or the one at the back of the head?
That's the hose to the reservoir lol. What do you mean by it's bubbling? In what direction? Is there a hole in the hose or something?
Don't know about 1996 but on later models the aux fan operates at the same time as the clutch. No refrigerant = no pressure seen by the PCM = no compressor = no fan
