Compared to the expense of replacing the entire driveline from the engine-back with rare parts?

Could just gut the front axle and remove drive shaft...

Did you have to remove the threaded stud the filter slides over?

I did the one side, now my jerry rigged exhaust is slapping the body. From the cross member back it's mounting brackets got fubar'd when I have a little shop weld a new muffler on.

First off, what's wrong with yours? If it's just oil soaked from leaking oil filter adapter seals, you can disassemble it and clean it up with brake cleaner.

Alright, I just don't see how someone would get it off without removing the stud. I just don't want to deal with the adapter if I don't need to. I know it needs the gasket so I might as well do it anyways.

Default '96 Cherokee rear suspension question

I'm helping my son replace shocks on his '96 Cherokee Sport 4wd, 4.0L. We ordered a 2" kit from Fat Bob's to gain a little more clearance for his tires, a kit listed to fit '84-'01 Cherokee's. Based on the instructions the kit looks like it is for a XJ with coil springs. Our Cherokee has leaf springs and coil over shocks. Where did I go wrong if the kits are for '84-'01?

Should have coils up front and leafs in the rear, unless it's been heavily modified
