Hi, I've got a 95 XJ 4.0 HO. The other day it started making a slight grinding noise near what at first seemed to be the front end, but then also sounded like it could be coming from the t-case area.
It does it at very low speeds, 10mph and less. It happens both slowing down and taking off, but once it's up to speed I don't hear it anymore. I do notice it more if I'm taking off on a slight incline, but once again disappears as soon as I get up to speed.
At first it sounded like something on the wheels like bearings or brakes, so I changed the brakes and still there. Maybe the t-case or something else? I'm not sure, its got me stumped! Anyone have any idea what could be causing it? Any help would be great. Thanks guys.

The wheel hubs are checked in a similar manner, you can grab the tire at 12:00 and 6:00 positions and try shaking it in and out. If it moves on any direction that is not the normal driving or steering axis then the hub is toast.
Grease dries up... Happens.
im not really over thinking nz road legality is an*l most cars on usa roads wouldnt pass the nz road legality test. to them a free hanging diff is a sharp edge. yes i do realise that its only matters to felled pedestrians and insects but removing the front diff is a LOT more weight than just dropping a drive shaft. to me having 2wd is a boon as i wont be lugging around a front diff i never really use. see my point?
I don't see why the diff would be considered "hanging"... it's already there, you're not releasing anything from it. Removing the DS will not in ANY way create a hazard or change any geometry relating to the axle.
Anyway regarding cutting the diff housing out, I suppose what you could do is cut out the housing completely and replace it with some tubing. Real DOM, not pipe. The axle is cast iron so welding can be a challenge. At that point a safety inspector I'm sure would seriously question the integrity of the modification.
What's wrong with the FL-1A?

Heat soak on 2000+ 4.0Ls like you describe is becoming quite common. Basically what happens is the pre-cats in the exhaust manifold build up gunk overtime and retain a LOT of heat. When the engine shuts off the heat rises and boils fuel in the injectors nearest the precats (P0303 and P0304 are common codes). The official fix is to insulate the injectors with heat wrap. Some guys like running an electric fan to cool it down (like a Turbo Timer) but it's a good idea - also cheaper and more reliable - to insulate the entire intake and fuel system.

Okay first of all my question is for a 95zj w/4.0, but the area in question is identical with an xj so I am asking here.
Drove the zj about 220 miles yesterday, all was good.
I go to start it today and it just cranks, as if the cps was bad. So I checked fuel pressure, condition of the cap and rotor, etc. Jiggled the battery cables. Then I just held the key and let it crank.
It eventually caught and struggled to idle, then ran smooth as silk. I've driven it and started it three times since then.
No issues whatsoever.
Really just trying to think what it was, before it leaves me stranded. The battery cables are 95 original and I do need to replace them, but I figured it would either not crank or have really weak cranks if they were the issue.
I'm stumped.

Didn't think so, just wanted to see if the pros had any other info. I currently use the Mobil 1 filter (M1301 I think) on normal changes (7500 mi OCI) and the FL1-A when I can't find the Mobil 1 filter (only go about 3500 then).

Nothing is wrong with it. I actually thinks it's a good filter for the price...but as we know I'm a lazy *** and I look for the longest OCI I can't get away with. Mobil 1 says there's last the longest...so far my oil tests with mobil 1 (oil and filter) where good....same result for mobil 1 filter and T6. I had both the jeep and my wife's van tested. If I find the email I'll send the test results to ya, figured you might can use them in your salad dressing oil hair treatment research

question for the experts.
Hello everyone, I am in the process of buying an 2001 Cherokee and found one with a sun roof. I am trying to figure out if this was an option. I have attached a picture .
I did try a search and found a reference but can t tell if this is one.
thanks in advance.
