Well, I just found the keyless entry section in my '94 XJ factory service manual ! Page 8P-8 to be specific ! It even has a picture of the transmitter , and where the receiver is located...
I should have looked for it earlier .....

Oh yeah, I mis-spoke when I said "remote start" when I meant "remote entry".....sorry for that screw-up !

The reason I figured it was factory, was the little dome in the small overhead panel, which I now see that the manual sez is where the receiver is located.

I'll check with the local Jeep dealer, since I need a pin & bushing for the lower driver's door hinge...
A new transmitter wont be cheap from the dealer I expect...

THANKS FOR THE RESPONSES !!

Bill

Adjusts the shift points. "Comfort" mode apparently is supposed to be quieter and smoother. It performs worse and wastes gas. When the switch was eliminated in '92 or so all following transmissions defaulted to "Power"

Ah. Remote keyless!

The factory system prior to 1997 is trash. See the little electric eye in the plastic dome? It's an infrared sensor. The old RKE requires good line of sight to work.

You're right about being concerned about expensive key fobs. Most folks just upgrade to an aftermarket RF based system and wind up paying less.

Question about my battery. When I start my XJ, the battery is usually around 10 volts (tested brand new batteries), the alternator only starts charging it when I am above 2-2.5K rpms. So my voltage only get up to 14v when the engine is under load.

Is that normal, or is my alt dying?

So since its gotten "cold" my steering is starting to do odd things. If i have to leave without letting the jeep warm up ill turn the wheel for the first time and itll sorta get stuck. With a tug the steering will "break free". Also since it got "cold" the steering has been a bit looser ill be turning on an on ramp to the freeway with the wheel in the same position the whole time and the jeep will cut hard suddenly then drift back. My steering has whined at full turn since i owned it so i always avoided full turning.

What should i inspect first? I already checked the fluid, it was a strange pink color and considering i used power steering fluid in it that isnt pink it was a tad odd. Its also been known to blow fluid out of the cap every so often, id always just top it off.

Default trouble with fan motor in 98 XJ

Since I have had this Jeep, the blower motor has only worked on the highest setting which was a bit inconvenient but not a problem.

Now, just as the weather has gotten cold. It has started to work only intermittently. It seems to "kick in" several minutes after the engine gets up to temperature.

Is this something the experts out there have seen before? Is it an easy fix?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Where exactly on the axle is the stamp for gear ratio? I have a 98. Classic, AW4, HP D30, C8.25, I6, 4x4. Just want to make sure I have 3.55 or 3.73 before ordering 4.10s and new front carrier. Don't want to buy it if I dont have to. I have a hitch but don't know if its stock or a PO added it
