So I noticed the other day that when I have the xj on jack stands under the unibody, the front axle shifts to the driver side a good inch or more. Is this normal? Zone 3" lift, RE track bar, RE sway bar links. Axle is centered when tires are on the ground.

Yes. The front axle travels laterally in an arc. The pivot point is the track bar on the frame side. This is why you replaced it with an adjustable lol

Lol right on thanks, salad. I just wasn't sure that it traveled THAT much. Now back to solving my front left knock/pop issue....ugh.

Got a fuel leak at the pressure regulator, through some searching I find most saying it uses a injector o ring where it fits into the fuel rail but what about the clip and o ring for the fuel line?

My steering has been loose since I bought this xj and I'm fixing to replace my steering box. I just took a quick look today and I noticed there was some gap in the joint connecting the steering shaft to the steering box. I think it's a U joint and whenever I try to move it I can feel that it's loose. Does this joint normally get worn out???
Is it in the steering box and not the joint??
Should I replace the joint and could this be a solid reason why my steering been loose? Thanks!

Just did some research and turns out I can't just replace to joint, I would have to replace the whole steering shaft.

Really? That's too bad. I imagine the joint is technically replaceable but there's no part number and nobody would bother anyway.

Opinions on my distributor cap? I've only ever seen them totally destroyed or okay.

Hello, I have a question for the XJ masses. When I have my 88 in the over drive position I have ruff or hard shaking shifts around 35-45 miles an hr, but in regular 3rd it shifts just fine. Can any one help guide me in the right direction of fixing this problem?

First off, are you driving with the transmission switch in Power or Comfort?

Secondly, what does the transmission fluid level and condition look like?

Thanks for the tip. I checked with my meter tonight and there is power to the motor.

One last thought, could the relay attached to the motor by the culprit, is there a way to check that?

Regarding my previous posts.I just reached My hand thru my car and tugged on the steering shaft. It had a little bit of Movement and wasn't completely solid. How bad Is this? Or is it normal? and I'm probably gonna end up buying a new shaft n steering box.

Good observation, yes it's normal and can make for a wild ride in the whoops when the suspension cycles rapidly. The movement is non-linear, the higher the lift/droop the more movement side to side.
Did you notice what else is rotating during suspension cycle? The wheels/steering. As the trackbar shifts the axle side to side, the wheels also turn accordingly.
Also check for clearance while at droop, turn the steering wheel to right, look for contact/conflict between draglink and swaybar mount on axle.


Yes, whole shaft, there is another union at firewall.
The contacts look a bit worn, hard to say. Does the rotor also look worn? If so than I suggest replacing both.
