the horn now sounds when i open any door including trunk. i was looking for somthing in my trunk and the horn suddenly went off so i shut the trunk and it went off but i went to go to drive and i opend my driverside door and it happend agen i dont know what it could be (1999 jeep cherokee) sorry if i posted this wrong still trying to understand the site
I just installed a couple of fuel injectors because the old ones were leaking. Replaced all the O-rings and everything seemed to be good. After running the engine for 5 min smoke started coming up from around the intake & exhaust manifolds. Smelling like burnt toast. I thought it could be gas dripping onto a hot pipe and steeming up but I can't find any leaks.. Any ideas on what is happening? Some research says it could be a cracked manifold? 89 Cherokee l6

I know that it is not a complete fix, but if the problem is just your weather stripping I have seen people take a small diameter rope and tuck it into the weather stripping. This will push on the stripping and make it fill the void. I saw it on the bleepin jeep Chanel on YouTube. I think he used a black .25" rope and then of course cut to length.
But if it is your door sagging than you may want to look into fixing that lol

I bought a new seal I'm gonna play with a little bit.
No door sagging problem though.... Both doors have perfect alignment since I shimmed them when I bought it.
4.0 head/block ?
Hello to the forum,
XJ is starting to get up there with age and sluggishness and would love to build a stroker for it. Here is the thing, I happen to have a '91 4.0 complete with transmission and transfer case from a previous vehicle and I wanted to know if it is possible to swap a 91 4.0 into a 99 4.0.
I figure the blocks, trannies, and transfer cases are the same and I figure the intake manifold should not be a problem to swap over, but what about the head?
I think it shouldn't be a problem but I thought I would ask an expert.
TIA

The heads are not the same but 91 and 99 are close enough for most people. May be some issue with the stock exhaust manifold on the 99, not sure. Go buy the intake/exhaust gaskets for each and you will see the differences.
You will need to move your 99 intake to the 91 engine in order to keep the bracket for your power steering pump and idler, etc. Just unplug all your existing sensors, throttle body, ignition, fuel parts, etc, and move them to the donor engine. ECM does not care about the iron, only the electronics

3 cats but 4 02 sensors
Hi Everyone I am new to the forum. and not much familiar, with the jeeps much, so i do much of my research on this forum. Never made an account, thought i would do that today because i have a question that not many proper answers were given......
Before i had a 2003 jeep grand cherokee 4.0L I6... i had a 2007 dodge ram 1500,
i cut the cats out of my dodge, it was a 3.7L v6 and got 40mpg highway and was a 6 speed, I know! sounds hard to believe, but happened.
Any how besides all that, When i get on the highway, going up to speed, smell super MASSIVE GROSS rich smell of gas. been thinking the cats are clogged, and not enough air flow out of the motor and be running rich. pisses gas like no other, get 5mpg city, 15 highway. (NOTE) Every sensor, vacuum line, gas lines, etc has been checked and / or fixed.
I know there is 3 cats, but the very last one right before the muffler, has no 02 sensor. Why would a 3rd cat be down there if no sensors are anywhere near it? :Help:
Can i just cut it off? release some backpressure? Where i live at no one gives a crap in the world what you do with your exhaust, does not matter if its all straight pipe, any serious help would be appreciated

Thanks for the help with the wipers!!!
Now I have another question. Here are my symptoms:
Clutch loosing pressure when driving down highway (i.e. not using clutch)
Drains reservoir of DOT3 when parked for extended amount of time (more than 14 hours)
Seems to drain faster if parked nose up hill.
When it does drain I can just fill up the reservoir and pump the clutch to build pressure and off I go.
I'm thinking either slave cylinder or maybe a pin hole in the line????
Totally unsure and need help!

Are you noticing any puddles under the jeep after it is parked for the extended period of time? If not check your carpet around the bottom of the clutch to see if its wet. If puddle on ground it can be three things: clutch master cylinder external leak, clutch line, or slave cylinder. If the floor is wet clutch master leaking on the inside.
I'm considering buying a 2001 XJ with 56k original miles. It has a salvage title.
I've got photos of the damage and I've seen the repairs. Bumper and passenger fender were replaced and repainted. Cosmetically it's excellent and better than my 2000 that hasn't been wrecked.
My concern is how much of a hit the passenger front wheel took and whether that screwed up the front drive line.
Suspension... meh... that can be replaced easily enough... same with steering.
Also, it has a front town hitch, so I assume it was pulled behind an RV quite a bit. I assume that means the differentials, drive shafts, wheel bearings, and all jointing hardware have much more than 56k miles. Would that cause wear on the transfer case as well?
I appreciate any thoughts. I feel like I know a lot about XJs, but there is more than a lot that I don't know.
