Test your wires going to the window motors, one will go to ground and other to 12v when the switch is pressed they will be the opposite when switch is pressed other way

Where other then the dealership is the best place to source a down pipe preferably one thats not just a cheapo aluminized steel knock off. I am looking for the pipe that attaches to the header to the cat.

I'm sure it will most likely be 3.55, there should be a tag attached to two diff cover bolts the first 3 numbers will be the ratio, you'll be fine as long as the ratios match

Default A/C Repair: Troubleshooting & Tools

Basics: Have a 2001 XJ with an A/C system leak. I think the leak is the evaporator. Not my daily driver. I am no mechanic.

Bought the Jeep last year and the A/C was blowing hot. Recharged the system, and it blew cold for about a week before winter. This past weekend it was 95, so I charged it again with one of the kits from AutoZone (30psi). It blew ice cold for about 2 days, but now the compressor is cycling like there isn't enough coolant in the system again, and blowing luke warm air.

I have checked all hoses and connections in the engine bay and found no oily residue. I have yet to get a really close look at the condenser. The number of posts I have read about A/C system all indicate that this is usually the evaporator core.

I plan on getting the evaporator and heater cores from AutoZone. I have a haynes manual, and pretty sure I can take the dash apart with time and effort.

The last bit I am unsure of are the tools required for replacing these items.

I have basic hand tools in metric and standard sizes up to 19MM and 7/8ths. I have a BFH, and a cheater bar.

I can evacuate and fill the system at my company, so no problems there.

What I want is a recommendation on the tools required to separate the A/C lines to replace the evaporator, and possibly the condenser if I find it has a leak as well. I'll also have to test the vacuum pressure after the replacement, and want some advice on that. Would like to just make one trip to AutoZone for the tool rental and parts list.

Thank you very much!

i really advise you find a shop that will do a sniffer test for you, it's the only good way to find the leak

and those kits are crap, they can't pressurize the system as much as is required using a small can...

Default Wont start 98 cheroke

I just got a 98 cherokee and the guy I bought it from thought it needed a starter. I shorted the solinoid across with a screw driver and it started and I drove it home. I shut it off and tried the ignition and it fired up. Next day I tried it and it spun over but gas guage reads empty and its full and fuel pump isnt kicking in. Could this be the ignition switch ? It runs as long as I am spraying eather in the intake.

sounds like your ground at the battery is shot.

Freshen / replace and try again. Also replace the battery terminals

real quick question... what gauge sheet metal is the floor pans and rear quarter panel in my 98 Cherokee?

I want to pick up some metal after work and am not sure what gauge I need.
