This morning when my roommates left in it the tank was almost full and it happened to them

People think harmonic balancers, when they fail, will give a vibration. The harmonics that the balancer eliminates are beyond human awareness.

Here's what a failed balancer looks like.

Please note that this particular balancer is not in it's original position on the front of the crankshaft.

I have had a harmonic balancer pulley fail on me on my crawler when the outer pulley separated from inner pulley. There were zero vibes that occurred beforehand.

did my first tune up today(plugs and wires). I'm getting a rough idle with a gas smell now. any thoughts? 99 xj 4.0

did u cross the wires with wrong terminals on the distributor cap or plugs?

is the spark plugs torqued to spec? Any wires that weren't pressed down on the plugs fully?

used a torque wrench on all besides the one closest to the firewall (not enough space). I will try to tighten that one now.

checked that the wires were down fully.
