I have a 2000 4.0 L XJ with auto transmission. A few years ago I had the air conditioning condenser behind the dash and the compressor replaced and the system recharged. It ran cold air like a champ. This summer it is not as cool and I can hear a gurgling sound when I turn it on. Sometimes it is colder than others but it never blows hot air.
Do I need just a recharge or does this indicate something else?

Okay so I did some looking but couldn't find what I was looking for. I have a 2000 xj. Just noticed yesterday I got a knock in my engine and it don't sound to healthy. I know there's a few things it could be. But is there anything in these 4.0s that are known to go bad that I should look at first before I rip and tear into it??

I recently went through the vacume lines and all the vents are working. I guess I'll take it somewhere and have the pressure tested.

AW4 Transmission
I have a '92 XJ 4x4 with an AW4 transmission that is pretty much toast ; it's attached to a NP231 transfer case that seems okay. My question is: Would an AW4 from a later model XJ ('93-'01) fit and function with no trouble? Also, would I be able to swap the NP231 transfer case for the NP242 with no trouble?
Any knowledge or insight is appreciated, thank you.

I know somebody who swapped a '99 aw4 into a 95 drivetrain. He swapped the extension tailhousing with wiring on it along with a collar that sits on the tailshaft.

Often the Cat. breaks up plugging muffler and making a "HotSpot" that burns out into a leak take your fist and beat on muffler and Cat. with the heel of your hand.... listen for rattles... possible bad Cat. The plugging will drop power... happens occasionally after hard run
