The majority of CF membership is novices who often don't know what they need. It's rare for us to get a new member who has mechanical and electrical experience, and most of them are still new to the XJ platform.
When somebody asks about fundamentally changing an aspect of their vehicle's function, I think it's not only reasonable, but RESPONSIBLE, for us to find out their intentions.

I have RHD e-vent handy and think to install it instead of mechanical vent in my winter dd xj '94, 4.0, aw4, in order to warm up faster in winter time during short drives. Would a couple of e-fans be enough in a high density city traffic? Cooling system is ok. Even without mechanical fan shroud I can hardly hear e-vent starting.
Fan swap is planned together with generator+a/c compressor bracket replacement with RHD one, which gives a bolt-on generator relocation to the top of the engine instead of a/c compressor.

Ask the Question Thread
So, I have a good mechanical and electrical experience, not new to the XJ platform, but would like to know your opinion on the following, dear sirs:

A very simple and cheap (proven to work) solution is to put a block-off plate in front of the radiator so there's less airflow and, in turn, less heat transfer. Then you can remove that plate (or cardboard, or whatever) if you want to.
Edit: To determine if your idea is feasible, you need to find out the CFM rating of each fan and add them together. Compare that to the CFM of the stock mechanical fan and see how they look. This wouldn't factor in turbulence, which may or may not be an issue.

Another question..
Not long ago had to sell one of my XJs which was my dd this summer ('93, 4.0, aw4, European market).
Began driving my winter XJ ('94, 4.0, aw4, US market) and noticed that it accelerates weaker and shifts up later. Performed a stall-test - 2000rpm...
The engine is well-maintained, smooth idle, good start, normal fuel pressure.
Where to look, what to check?
Of course, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, TPS, MAP, injectors, filters are in good order.
Thanks in advance.

About 10-15 years ago and earlier the majority of Russian-made and some other cars and light trucks "weared" these block-off plates))! Usually used cardboard boxes of all colours and words/titles.
When I relocate gen with RHD bracket, I have to take off a stock vent.
Our winter salt mixtures are extremely harmful for low-located gen.
So the idea was to install a second e-vent if it would be enough for cooling.

Sorry I ment 00 xj. Damn smart phones. I'm buying a crate engine and have the option to get an aftermarket camshaft with it. A little bigger then stock. Wasn't sure if I needed a tune or not.......

I asked this a couple days ago but I screwed up my own question. So here it is again, but right this time. Will a 96 distributor work in my 92 4.0? The 96 looks like it has some different internals (cam positioning sensor?) I have access to a practically new one that will cost me $0.

Haha, right on, I remember the crate engine question but sadly that's not in my wheelhouse. Where is the engine coming from? You can always call manufacturer and see what they recommend but guaranteed someone's asked this question before and gotten a good answer. There's a few on here who can give you good advice, try posting this question in the Modified Cherokee section of you have t yet. In the mean time I'm gonna do some Googling.

To begin, I'm posting this for a friend of mine...
Background: 1998 XJ sport, 4.0L auto, 165K. She bought the jeep 2 years ago, has taken great care of it. Last year when she brought it in for inspection it had a CEL, code P0700. I told her its a trans code when she told me, but her mechanic said "its nothing, its a non specific code" he cleared the code, had her drive it a while, it didn't come back so he passed it.
Now she got a code that came back about 3 or 4 months ago, but when she had someone check it out, they plugged in to take a reading and they couldn't get one. The guy said that it "wouldn't communicate with his reader" and when he plugged in to get it inspected, same thing, the "jeep wouldn't communicate" so he couldn't get any sort of reading from it. What is weird is that the jeep runs OUTSTANDING, like its brand new, no power loss, no trouble with the trans, shifts gears like butter. She literally has absolutely NO issue with it, other then this CEL and not being able to get the jeep to communicate
Any ideas what would cause it? This has me completely stumped. I figure, if I can get a code reader on it and working, I can figure out the rest for her.
I'm headed out this weekend to check the OBDII plug and see if anything is corroded/dirty check the wiring and check her fuses.
Looking for ANY other advise on what to try/look for, even a long shot. Thanks in advance!

Check the wire that's bolted on the oil dipstick. That's the ground wire for data communicator. Often when code readers have problems reading, it's caused by dirty or corroded ground. Just clean it

Wow, I'm impressed with your speed for that response! I NEVER would have though to check that! Thanks!
