Yup, that makes sense now that I think of it. But wouldn't tow package have 3:73s? I forgot to look at the rear axle to see if it matched.

Not after 1987 with a 4.0.

Ah alright, always teaching me cruiser. The po of the jeep claims he swapped in the 242 and front axle from a different jeep. The 242 swap would be correct since it's doesn't have the correct tail cone on it. But the 242 he got came from a ho jeep so I'm not sure how that would have worked.

All said and done I'm ripping the 242 out anyway so it doesn't really matter.

I'm suspicious of any info from the PO. I know a way to find out if it had a 231 in it originally.

2000 sport 4.0. Starts up smooth. Temp reaches about 190, idles rough. Turn off for 30 to 60 seconds to let temp build up a bit. Temp just under 210 mark on gauge. Runs smooth again. Once warmed up all is fine after first restart. Occasional check engine light. P0301 code. Misfire #1 cyl. Replaced thermal sensor. Nothing changed. Suggestions?

not really but some fluid would come out. It would be difficult to put RTV on the tail cone and have it cure while the fluid is seeping out. Probably for the best to drain the t case anyway

Ok thanks. It's always fun gambling with the funnel and the quart bottle in that area.

I use a suction pump to draw the fluid out of the container and push it in the t case.
