My brakes lock up when it's cold/rainy outside. After 5-6 complete stops as smooth as possible, it's fine again.

It seems to be my rear passenger tire doing this. A couple months ago I made the mistake of popping a brake cylinder on the driver's side and replaced the adjusting screw while I was at it (was completely stuck). I checked the other side and it was stuck as well, but since the shoes seemed fine and the drum covers were replaced last year, I left it like that.

My question is basically what's causing this lock up? Worn shoes? Stuck adjusting screw? Shoudl I just say f* it and replace everything?

It doesnt seem that my issue is a vacuum leak due to the vacuum being held within the system for a few days after the car being shut off. Ill take a look into the vacuum switch that comes off of the manifold

I would suspect improper adjustment first. It's normal for brakes to freeze and lock up when going through very cold water, such as winter river crossings, but it isn't an issue I've run into from rain.

There may be a vacuum check valve somewhere that's allowing your CC to lose pressure while retaining it somewhere else. It's really outside of my knowledge base, and that's about the best speculation I can give for a CC issue. It could be entirely unrelated to vacuum, but I'm not the one to make that call.

Take it apart and poke around - chances are there's a fluid leak or one of the little rubber plugs is missing, which would let a lot of water in. Poor adjustment may cause this, brake friction normally rides so it's JUST TOUCHING the rotating surface, which I think normally keeps the problem from getting TOO bad (since it's not exactly a hermetic seal lol)

But yeah it would be a good idea to go in armed with new shoes and hardware.

It mostly happens when raining and after my jeep is sitting for at least a couple hours. But it also happens when it's not raining, so maybe humidity I guess? As soon as I apply pressure on the brakes it just locks up and the weight of the car drags it for a few more feet while the other brakes do their normal job.

Yeah I guess I'll end up replacing everything since I have no patience for trying around haha. I guess I should change shoes on both sides and not just the faulty one?

Thanks for the replies

Yeah do brakes both sides at once. Friction is sold for both sides in one package, anyway

Default Bedlining

So I'm kinda sick of the rust holes, and scratches and I'm thinking of just bedlining the whole thing. I really like the maroon color but just want something that's tough and really easy to touch up. Any cons to doing this? Also what's the best way to patch holes? Sheet metal and a welder? Best way to cheaply and effectively prep. Doesn't have to look pretty under a microscope but I don't want it to look like too much of a frankenjeep

Problems with bedlining the whole thing:
Cost
Weight
If you ever cut or drill anything, you sling molten bedliner

I was thinking about doing it back in the day, until I talked with some people who already took the plunge. They all regretted it and recommended using spraypaint so it can be touched up

I have bedlined bumpers on my other Jeep and whenever it gets gouged I just hose it down let it dry and spray some touch up over the top. Within a n hour you can't even tell. Also I don't think there are any shops around that do it so I'd be doing it with a case of rattle cans. Maybe just a strip along the bottom or something and POR and bondo for the higher holes such as the roof? Painting isn't my thing all that much and I liked the ease that I could work with the bumpers.

Hello fellow CF members! I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but I am in great need of help, specifically members from the Toronto/GTA area.

I purchased a Cherokee Classic 2000 in May 2015 and right off the bat it had problems, none of which I knew about or made aware of; I'm inexperienced with vehicles. The A/C compressor and suspension were toast so I had them replaced with an OEM Sanden compressor and KYB Accel-G suspensions.

The latest problem is low oil pressure and I replaced the old sending unit with a brand new MOPAR one which worked for a bit, but now I still have the same problem especially when it's warmed up. When stopped at a red light, I'd get the "Check Gauges" light. I took it into a shop my friend recommended and they found out that I'm leaking from the main rear seal, valve rocker cover, oil pan, crankshaft.. And I may possibly have the infamous cracked head because there's a tiny bit of oil or something in my coolant overflow bottle. So I concluded that must be why I was getting low oil pressure.

My question is if anyone can recommend a good and trustworthy mechanic in the Toronto/GTA area that is able to repair these problems and won't charge an arm and a leg? I feel like I already overpaid initially for the vehicle, which I drove 8 hours there and back to get. I've already spent a chunk on the A/C compressor and suspensions. This is my most favourite vehicle and I'd hate to get rid of it already. I've only driven it approximately 3,000 KM since purchasing it. It's just sitting in my driveway because I don't want to damage it any further by driving it.

I've already contacted Jim@Rockspyder4x4 but he's so booked, I may be waiting over a month to go see him. Just Jeeps is the same. Also, how much do you figure it'd cost to do all of this? Is it worth it fixing?

Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks!

Default Sputtering

While driving my jeep it begins to sputter. It only happens once in a while. I can drive about 20 minutes before it starts. I'm looking for some where to start I've changed the plugs wires distributor cap & fuel filter.

That sucks dude. Check the oil - if it looks muddy, the head is done for.

Try Just Jeeps in the GTA. Also check out JeepKings.ca, I think there're a few threads on there.

If there is indeed coolant in the oil causing your low pressure, you're looking at replacing the engine.

A Kijiji special?

The XJ was produced from 1983 to 2001 (in North America) with 5 engines and 7 fuel systems. You wanna help us out here?
