Crank, no start
I just finished putting a 94 Cherokee Sport 4.0 into my 2000 Cherokee. I used the bottom end from the 94, put the head, intake, exhaust, and ignition from the 2000 on the 94 block. It cranks but does not fire. I used a friend's code reader and got a P1694 code. I know this means there is no bus communication and can be many things. Any ideas on where to start looking?

Check to make sure the cam position sensor is in the correct position (plug should be towards firewall), also check to make sure crank position sensor is seated correctly. One other thing, you used the flex plate from the 2000 engine right? The older flex plates wont work in the newer Cherokees.

I just checked 2 different parts stores and they both give me a Chrysler OEM part number of 52117761 for a flex plate for the 2000 and the 1994 4L. Is there any other reason to swap the flex plate?

It's running. Found a ground loose on the motor, cleaned the Crank Sensor and moved the Cam Sensor like adjusting timing with a distributor and it runs great.

Good to hear. When I swapped a 93 engine into my 2000 I had to swap the flex plate. The 93 flex plate had different timeing slots than my 2000 flex plate.

I have added another misfire to my engine. I now have cylinder 1 & 3 misfire. Would that still indicate the ignition coil pack as the root of the problem, but it's just wearing down even more?
Thanks,
Jon
