Well crap. I'm already broke because of my gas for the xj. Havnt even moded it yet and I am obsessed with getting this 78 Cherokee chief I found for about $3,500. It'll take me a while to save up for this and it'll take way more to fix it up. It has blowback so either rebuild or I could get a new engine for it which would possibly help with mpg( with the 401 it gets 10 mpg). I think I seriously need help haha

Any opinions on a second electric fan pushing air in front of the radiator vs. simply splicing into the oem fan to override it when needed? Thinking about keeping the Jeep cool on trails and can't decide which would be a better option.

Assuming you have a good, clear radiator (no clog), and working water pump, Add HD fan clutch, and hood vents if you like. A switch for the OE fan to force it on is a great idea so that it can cool the power steering system and blow some heat away from the exhaust manifold.

Fans are relatively cheap, not looking to spend a lot. Engine stays at 210 when warmed up, but on the trails I know it can get warm with little movement. Just thinking of what would be a better option for a quick mod, extra fan or tapped oem fan for switch. So far I have read that the oem fan switch is great while an extra fan will block airflow? Looks like I got my answer. Thanks. I already have a switch from a previous mod so shouldn't be hard.

Well I mean my xj is in perfect condition and is very drivable. I want the chief for a project and I wanna get it before it's gone. I might just start a separate little savings for it that I add some money here and there and still use the bulk of my money for the xj.

I'm not telling you what you should or shouldn't do, because I don't know your situation. I'm just saying it sounds like sticking to one vehicle would be responsible right now, based on what you've said here.
