I have a 99 Cherokee 4.0l auto that was sitting for a couple years. The battery was dead but I was able to jump start it and drive it on the trailer. Got it home and a few weeks later went to move it and I put the cables on the wrong side in the dark and then disconnected them quickly. I got a new battery but now it cranks but will not start. The electric fan is running all the time (which it didn't do before) so I think it might be some thing electrical. I checked all the fuses (all fine) but the ASD relay is buzzing oddly. I swapped it out with the fuel pump relay and it does the same thing. I have not tackled it yet but just wondering if anyone has any ideas?

Ok but the "swap" will work correct? I just need a '97 cluster

You need a '97-01 cluster, and I think you're legally obligated to log the miles on both odometers when you do the swap.

Is it difficult to put the rear stock flares back on? Both of mine came off (by my own hand) during my road trip

On '97+ they sorta hang on with some tabs from above and then a single screw into the rocker panel keeps them in place.

I don't think so. It probably already rusted away, leaving the plastic flares in place.

Hey All!
I have some questions about changing out my front brakes. I am getting a lot of mixed messages about what parts are good and what are bad. I was looking at rotors and pads from O'Reilys but people I have talked to say their stuff is not so good. Also, people have told me that I should replace the calipers. Is this necessary? If so, what brand should I go with? Any guidance regarding this would be much appreciated.

Also, if anyone knows where I can get a new/used front driver seat for a 2000 XJ, I would appreciate any info on that as well. Seems to be a hard thing for me to find.

Why would you replace the calipers? Do you have a problem or are you just freshening the brakes?

Decent priced rotors (never buy the cheapest anything) and ceramic pads are what you want. 2000 model year is back to the "Full Cast" design for rotors.

At what point do you turn off your 4 wheel drive? When I drive in snow, usually my road and local streets are covered in a noticeable amount of snow, but some roads have just a dusting. When I get to those roads I usually go back to 2wd thinking not to run the system on "dry pavement". Does a dusting of snow present enough loss of traction to keep 4wd engaged?

You could leave it engaged under those conditions.

You only have PartTime 4wd I'm guessing?

Good question actually. I have the Command-trac system in my XJ, but there's no Part Time 4wd light (unless it's burned out)?
