Another major issue is the turn signal.
I searched the forum but didnt find the exact issue although alot of the answers seem to be check for corrosion.
The turn signal function normally until I turn on the headlight. Then the left turn signal indicator turns and stays on (in dashboard onlu). And when I turn the headlight and activate the left turn signal it usually blink real slow both in the dashboard and the actual turn signals. Which was relatively ok until this past week when some rain set it. The chances of the left turn signal blinking while headlight is on is 20 percent. Most of the times it doesnt work and the indicator gives a very light green steady light. No blinking and no full on green light.
Ps. There is a small plastic cover on top of the turn signal lense that is missing on the left side. Thus the correlation with rain and water.
What do u guys think I should do now that its completely unsafe to drive at night?
Take Crap apart and clean it up. You're having a grounding issue.

Update. I tried cleaning stuff up but am a noob. I will add a couple more details. The wipers rnt completely reliable. The stop sometimes amdd if I change them to. A higher speed they work again. Which seems to suggest something. Wrong with the multi function thingie.
My flashers r. Also not reliable at all. Ive onky tested them a couplle of. Times because the independent lever is broken.
And my turn signal doesnt go off automatically after a left turn.
Shouldd I keep looking for a short or should I check that multi function thing?

This is sounding like a steering wheel removal is in your future. I say this because the only way to replace the turn signal/flasher switches is to remove the steering wheel and drop it down from the bottom of the day so you can thread the new wires to the right places in the steering column. It also makes it easier to check for rubbing when you can remove the wires in the column and separate them. At least your xj is old enough that you don't have the airbag in the steering wheel.
i'm starting to feel some play in the output shaft of my steering box. happens when I grab the drag link / pitman arm and try to move it around. they seem tight but there is a small 1mm or less of play somewhere between the drag link end and the steering box. should I get ready to install a new box or I can try to tighten/ajust something on there? right now I dont feel it when driving so I'll wait before doing anything, but in the event it gets worse, I'd like to know what my options are
OK, from what I've read the heads will swap fine, but I've had this '92 block rebuilt on my stand for 8yrs or so and just found a '01 head at a yard
with a stamp of "made in Mexico" that someone was hiding in the back trunk.
Now wanting to use this short block and head in my son's '01 Cherokee and wanted to know if the BLOCK is compatible with the '01 trans and other accessories.? (motor mouts and or other bracketry )
From what I've read, it looks like it should be straight foreward, but don't want to spend my whole weekend swapping in a motor expecting son to drive off to school safely and something 'happen' and have us scrambling for wheels..
Again it's a '01 Cherokee that will be getting a '92 short block and '00-01 head with the bosses for the coil pack assy.

Are these heads after-market desirable or thicker like some other heads that I've read of? (like the early Dodge/mitsubishi 2.6 heads that were prone to cracking ALL THE TIME)
Dropping off the head to be checked out and valve job. but don't want to spend the money if I can return it and keep looking.

desirable 0331 heads is made in Tupy, Brazil. So if it's made elsewhere, I would ditch it and look for a tupy head from 02-06 4.0's

^^^ If it doesn't say TUPY on it it's junk.
You can buy an adapter for the exhaust manifold to match properly, and make a couple of little tabs to hold the coil rail off of the valve cover screws.
Alright. So got the overhead console plugged in (only the red plug) and the lights work fine but the little display does nothing. So, if there is no plug for the green and black connector p,if into to. What do I need to do to make the display work? Do I need to run my own power to the display wires? If so, which wires? Also, I have yet to pick up the temp sensor on the bumper of the jeep I pulled this off of so maybe that will give me the harness for one of the green or black to connect to. But still unsure of the display power. Also, the red plug only has 3 of the 6 spots filled in the connector on my jeep. Any got any ideas? Thanks
