Fuses are pretty much all the same. Nothing to worry about there

finnally got this figured out. Thought I checked every switch and connector but I was wrong. Turned out to be loosened female side of the spade terminals where the factory headlight connector plugs into my aftermarket headlight harness. Finnally got my lights back! Now to figure out my dreaded knocking. Etheir engine or flex plate.

For all you jeep guru, looking for help on pros and cons between having a jeep Cherokee and grand Cherokee let's say mid 90's Cherokee to mid 2000 grand Cherokee , I know the grand is more luxury, bigger engine and bigger cabin space....which cherokee would be simpler

2000 Cherokees and 1999 and 2000 Grand Cherokees have a bad casting in the 4.0L cylinder head. I wouldn't buy one unless it was dirt cheap, or the body was immaculate.

1997-1999 Cherokees are considered the most reliable and all-around "best". 1999 was the last year of fixes by engineers before things changed again.

Not sure on Grand Cherokees. 1993-1998 and 1999-2004 are different vehicles (ZJ vs WJ)

OK so heres one I havent seen answered yet:

Is there anything that is a *MUST DO* for a stock '96 2wd 4cyl?

I ask because with my motorcycles, theres usually some things like replacing a cam chain tensioner with a better one, update the headlight harness so it doesnt catch fire, etc.

Do a headlight harness so your headlight switch doesn't fail.

ok this has been asked a thousand times, but for my exact situation i was wondering if draining the fluid of my aw4 and fill it would be a good idea. jeep now has 210k km (130k miles) and last time it was changed was, according to the PO invoices, at 100k km (60-65k miles) and I don't have the date (but it was easily 10-15 years ago)

on the dipstick the fluid has a red tint to it, but is still pretty dark. doesn't smell burnt at all.

i dont have shifting issues or weird stuff happening, i just want to service my t-case and transmission but nobody seems to agree on what's good and what's not. at regular intervals I'm sure it's good but after about 60k miles i've heard it's either bad or really needed, with no definitive answers. thanks

Drain and fill with Dex/Merc.

You wouldn't continue to wear the same undies forever just because you're gonna soil a new pair, would ya?

All kidding aside, the AW4 is one of the most robust automatic transmissions ever.

Fluid changes are maintenance. 30K miles for regular service and 15K for severe duty service like a postal carrier or alot of towing.

yeah i was well aware to use dexmerc and not atf4 so i'm alright for that. as far as underwears go, i try very hard not to soil them but it's not always easy...

looks like i'm going to get ready for a drain n fill now... thanks!

I have 2 96 ZJs(one now for parts) I believe ~96 is the best year. The 5.2 magnum is heavy, not that great on fuel but has gobs of torque(for the time). If you don't mind doing the work buy both! I love my ZJ as a DD and my 99 XJ is great for off-road and has the best visibility of any vehicle with a top and doors on. If ZJ get the 5.2 if XJ try for a 99. The 242 is great to have if you have to DD in icey/slippery environments. Oh and the 249(viscous coupler) in the ZJ will probably be shot after 150k or so but you can swap in a 242 or a 231 fairly easy. About to swap a 242 in my ZJ when I get time.

Also the 44a in the grands tends to go through bearings as the aluminum center section can flex. It has the ring and pinion of a d60 so is plenty strong in that aspect. Also the front on the grands is a low pinion d30 so it will be weaker under forward torque. And the ZJ power leather seats are pretty much the nicest seats you can get in a stock vehicle.

My 2001 Jeep Cherokee was stolen....then recovered with front end damage along with the steering column being damaged due to the key cylinder being broke out. When I got the jeep back, the radio, speedometer, tachometer, temperature, oil pressure, gas and volt gauges do not work. I thought replacing the damaged steering column / key cylinder would fix the problem....BUT IT DIDN'T. I checked all the fuses and that didn't fix the problem either. Can anyone help guide me to trouble shooting this issue?
THANKS
Jeff

Just noticed that my temp gague sits really low when I'm driving then sometimes spikes up at 210. I just used a thermometer when I got home and it read 203 even though the needle on the dash was at like 150, is this just a temp sensor issue?

So a 96 grand or a 99 cherokee, the Jeep won't be a daily driver, mostly to take it 4x4, fire trails and for 4 grown men to go hunting in it! I'm not trying to take it to do major 4x4, it's more for when I need it rather have 4x4 then asking a Ford or chevy to help out lol. I'm still stuck on which to get

Seems like a great price for factory motor mounts (even has the Chrysler symbol on em). But it says they are for the 87-90 2.5L. Don't the 2.5 use the same mounts as the 4.0. Why wouldn't these work on my 93 with 4.0?
