Got her fixed! Did a tune up about 6 months ago, the brand new coil I put in crapped out. Dug her old coil outta the spare parts box, slaved it in, she fired right up.

Ugh.

Hey guys a few questions today
1 I am having issues with the transfer case on my 87 not sure where to start? Linkage doesn't seem to have anything obstructing it but You can pull with everything you can muster and absolutely nothing no shift and nothing on the dash lights up, pulls up and will sit around where it should be in 4hi but nothing cant get into 4hi,N,4L ??
i have seen threads where people are stuck in 4wd but havent found one that has the same mess i am in. Tried it moving in drive, in neutral,in reverese on jack stands to take any load off but same thing. Guessing drop the tcase?
Not sure if a vacuum issue could be the culprit?

2 new to the forum what is with the damn walmart ad scam crap that comes up when you try to do anything on here? I tried downloading the actual app for this forum trying to avoid it but that thing dumps if you try to post anything?

Have you checked the transfer case fluid level and condition?

The vacuum is just for the front axle.

Here's how the factory suggests you shift the transfer case and I've been doing this since these things were new and I worked at the dealership. Quoted from the owner's manual. The suggestions in CAPS are mine.

"To engage, shift the transfer case lever from 2H to 4H while the vehicle is moving at any legal speed". I LET OFF THE GAS, THROW THE LEVER, TAP THE GAS AND LET OFF.

4L position: " To engage, slow the vehicle to 2-3 MPH , shift the transmission to Neutral, then shift the transfer lever to the right and pull firmly rearward to 4L".

TO SHIFT OUT OF 4L, SHIFT THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL WITH THE VEHICLE STOPPED, SHIFT THE TRANSFER CASE LEVER TO 2H, THEN THE TRANS TO D IF YOU HAVE AN AUTOMATIC, OR INTO FIRST GEAR WITH A MANUAL, AND CONTINUE ON.

Yeah tried all that when it didn't work thats why i posted in here . I have had 3 other xjs all 97+ but never had this issue before regardless of how you try to shift it it doesn't engage anything. Really doesn't go anywhere its not stuck between anything but it wont shift into anything period first pic is as far back as it goes second is as far forward it goes.

pull or anything

Not sure, but not on a Cherokee. That is a 1710 series joint that has flanged bearing caps that bolt onto yoke. Cherokee driveshafts use 1310 series.

Did '97-01 all use the same fuel pump? I'm finding mixed info when I cross-reference part numbers. Trying to organize and label my spare parts.

And I was told this is a Renix cruise control motor. Does it look Jeepy?

Attachment 296460

The 97 & 98 originally had part number 4874173. 99-01 had part number 5012953AB. All of these pumps (97-01) now go by part number 5012953AC.

Edit: Go to Rockauto and search the part numbers above and you can see what each looks like.

Did a compression test.. 2001, 185K. Should I be worried about cylinder 2? I know it's not in the really bad zone yet but it seems to be showing some wear

I'm totally in the dark on this one. I'd appreciate if you were to take a look, but it might not even be from a Jeep vehicle
