If your XJ is turning off on the highway randomly, make sure the cables are tight! Ha. My clamp was stripped so the main lead was falling out randomly or losing its connection. New clamp, fresh tightened down lead, and shes running great.

XJ 99 rpm's issue
Hello guys, my automatic xj 99 is having a serious problem, whenever I'm driving and the RPM's go beyond ~2k it suddenly loses power and drops to ~1.5 k but never upshifts to the next gear, as I keep the foot on the gas pedal it revs to ~2K again then drops to 1.5 k again this behavior keeps happenning as long as I'm on Drive and hit the ~2 k mark.
When idle the XJ does not show any problem, do you think it's a transmission issue?
As a note, the battery is dying and I noticed that the same morning that I struggled to start the car the RPM's problem started. Thanks for your help!

Hello all, I'm new here and I tried searching for this but I might have just been missing it.. I think my xj has a NP231 transfer case in it and the 4 low isn't currently working. I happen to have a NP242 transfer case in my garage. Would that work in the xj, or would it have to be a NP231?

I'm assuming you've adjusted the shifter linkage and made sure the NP231 is full of fluid, right? And shifting it into low range with the trans in neutral and vehicle stopped?

"To engage, shift the transfer case lever from 2H to 4H while the vehicle is moving at any legal speed". I LET OFF THE GAS, THROW THE LEVER, TAP THE GAS AND LET OFF.
4L position: " To engage, slow the vehicle to 2-3 MPH , shift the transmission to Neutral, then shift the transfer lever to the right and pull firmly rearward to 4L".
TO SHIFT OUT OF 4L, SHIFT THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL WITH THE VEHICLE STOPPED, SHIFT THE TRANSFER CASE LEVER TO 2H, THEN THE TRANS TO D IF YOU HAVE AN AUTOMATIC, OR INTO FIRST GEAR WITH A MANUAL, AND CONTINUE ON.

Gas cap sensor.
My dash keeps saying Check Gas cap. I have replaced the gas cap and it still comes up. I also have 2 emissions codes. I am wondering if this can be caused be the Canister purge value or the fuel vapor canister?

Hey guys, so I'm just about positive I have a grounding issue somewhere. I'll spare you guys the long story and details, but outside of all the ground wires in the engine bay, are there any other "obvious" ones that I should check as well?
Thanks in advance!
Thanks in advance!
No, I don't lick fish.
As far as the '94 seats go, I honestly can't remember the year split to when they started with the new seat slider style. I believe it may have been '93. Just look at the part on the seat sliders that bolts to the floor. If they're flat (parallel to the floor), then they'll bolt right in. The newer style sliders were parallel to the floor in the back and perpendicular (about a 90* angle) to the floor in the front. The newer style bolt onto a raised cross-brace in the floor and will require either the same cross-brace to be welded onto your floor, a new cross-brace to be fabricated, or as some have had good luck with making an L-shaped bracket that bolts to the floor and the seat sliders... although I wouldn't recommend that for a daily driver as it could pose a safety hazard in the event of a collision.
Well... I mean, there's grounds all over the body near electrical accessories (tail lights, abs system parts, electric seats, overhead lights, etc). If you're having a problem with an accessory, check near said accessory for any corrosion at the grounds. Other than that, it's always good to refresh the engine compartment grounds.

Question
My Fellow JeepHeads,
What up!
What the hell is this thing on my roof?!!! lmao. I'm guessing there's supposed to be more to this or maybe an upgrade-able option? Looks like someone had something on there due to leftover adhesive, maybe sunglasses holder or something. Any ideas on what that thing is before I cut it up and make it a 'button center' for my ADD friends?

Edit: I'm thinking this may be the option for the digital information 'read-out,' if you will. Not sure if that was an option in '97?
