Is it normal to have a gap between the distributor and the block? Replaced the mounting gasket yesterday and I had issues getting the bolt to tighten up the last 1/8" I needed so I put a thick washer on it and I noticed after tightening that there's a small gap on the opposite side of the distributor at the block. Started and ran fine no issues and I couldn't see any leaks. But it's dirty around that area so it's hard to tell.
I wouldn't think so... sure its fully engaged in the oil pump?

If I recall correctly it was flat when I started to thread the bolt in. I'm wondering if the washer allowed me to tighten it more then needed and it lifted if up. I'm going to take the bolt out and see if it moves.

I'm having a problem with the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee I just purchased. Jeep was running beautifully when I picked it up this past weekend and diagnostic was run on vehicle and there are no issues with motor or transmission. It started to want to turn off when idle and shuts off when it is put into drive. The vehicle was sitting dormant for quite a while before I purchased it so I think it could be dirty fuel lines but wanted to ask you guys and see what you think.

Dies during right turns
Hi guys
Had a weird prob crop up today. I lose my engine in "medium" right turns. No electrical brownout or anything, just a couple of engine "cuts" usually leading to it stopping altogether. Stop, shift to neutral, fires up just fine. My XJ is a 2000 Sport with 175,xxx miles, 4.0L l6, AW4 trans. Buddy and I did some process of elimination stuff...
-No apparent shorts in wiring, no blown fuses. Tried moving every wire/harness with engine at idle, no effect.
-Fuel at ~1/2 tank
-No problem in left turns
-No problem with slow right turns
-No problem with turning right while stationary
-No codes stored in ECM, engine readouts appeared normal
-Doesn't care if its accelerating or decelerating. Cuts out under accel, just drops to 0rpm decelerating. All right turn.
I've only had this XJ for ~2500 miles and do not know the maintenance history. Today is the first time this problem has cropped up at all, and it is 100% repeatable. Recent work performed included a pair of engine mounts and the transmission mount, twice. Non-rubber TM mounts are terrible. Anyway, I'm open to suggestions, thanks guys.

I'd suspect a fuel problem, but I don't know where the pickup is inside the tank. If the pickup tube (or sock) is damaged or missing, that's definitely cause it.
Thoughts from someone who has opened up one of those gas tanks?

It's a large cylinder that fits right in. No tube or anything.
A sudden drop to 0 RPM suggests an electrical problem. Only on certain turns hints at a loose connection or broken wire. How far did you go checking wires and connections?

For what it's worth one of my buddies had an issue similar to that and nobody could figure it out.
Months later and many failed attempts to diagnose it he finally figured it out.
The bolts holding his transmission to the motor were slightly loose and with the right torque load going through the transmission the transmission would flex away from the motor just far enough for the CPS to be able to read the flexplate and the jeep would stall.

It happens when people post from the old app. Those posts don't show up on the new app or the website until somebody posts from one of those systems.

What I'm saying is I thought it was narrowed down to users that use the app to post is the ones we can't see? I think that's what I saw but I'll go check the thread. You don't use the app, so I see your posts. But maybe he uses the app and that's why we can't see his.

Mostly the easy-to-get-to wires under the hood. Going to try the more obscure "poke em with a stick" ones today. We also tried jostling the XJ back and forth to no effect. It does seem electrical, the way it just suddenly cuts. I just took the Jeep around the block, and go figure there is no sign of this problem when it's cold. Going to warm it up and try again.
