Engine swap questions
Newbie here. Considering buying a very clean 86 Cherokee with a bad 2.8L GM V6 with Automatic trans (cracked block, head(s), gasket... who knows??). My preference would be to drop in a 258 i6 from the same era (had that engine in my 78 J10, long gone) and change over to manual trans.
Possible or not?? I found this statement on a 'engine swap' thread...
"Cant fit a strait 6 in the earlier cherokees due to fire wall clearence problems"
True or False??
Also, any thoughts on converting to diesel? I know they sold the early Comanches with a 4 banger diesel. Anything like that that would drop in (of course with adapters)??
I guess I would consider a 4 banger gas engine. Any body ever drop in an "Iron Duke" engine out of an 80's Chevy S10?? That would be awesome with the S10 5-speed trans. I can make adapter plates if necessary but rather buy 'em off the shelf if they exist.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
