Depends what kind of "saved" we are talking about. Clean AZ Jeep? No way. But if you cut out the cancer it'll slow it tremendously. The problem is the area you took a shot of is difficult to work with, that's the fender well, the floor, the rear rocker, and the leaf spring hanger. It's a fair bit of work, but it can be done.

I strongly recommend frame rail stiffeners.

Default What are GAGES ?

Last night a new light come on on the dash while driving in heavy rain. Lower right side of the instrument area. It was orange and said: CHECK GAGES

What is a GAGES?
How do I check them?
Are they the same as gauges and the factory was out of U's when they built mine?

This morning my fuel tank was 3/4 full when I parked at work. Now on the lunch break, it's at 1/4 empty. What the **** happened?

A plastic tube and a gas can, probably

Default No dash vent air flow

Originally when I got the this 1998 GC all of the blower air came out the defroster vents. Later a friend of mine fiddled around while laying on the floor of the Jeep and made some air then come out on the floor.

Projecting: I have to assume that some kind of dampers are suppose to direct the airflow to the various places. Are those damper electric or vacuum?

Is there a way to defeat them and just have air come out everywhere all the time? I think that would be fine with me.

You will find in the meteorology industry that both spellings are acceptable, even though "gauge" is technically correct. Same goes with most industries.

I call that "washing the alternator"

It's pretty common for Americans to drop Us. Like color, meter, behavior, neighbor, etc.

Did you forget to turn the engine off again?

Check coworkers for dilated pupils.

Default The real nuts & bolts of air conditioning ?

1998 GC w/4.0 auto

Does anyone here know the operating pressures and temperatures of a properly operating AC system? Normal suction pressure (a range is OK)? Normal head pressure? Liquid subcooling? Suction superheat? Typical temp difference across the evaporator coil? Typical temperature difference across the condenser coil.

Oh wait? Condenser TD is impossible because of the radiator! OK; so forget that one.

But anyway: general stuff like that? Anybody know those numbers?

My interior vent dampers system is AFU but I have air flow and the cooling seem to be minimal at best. I just got snap-on-to-1/4" flare hose adapters last night - to be able to use my standard gauges on the vehicle system - but I have not been out there to poke around yet. The discharge line is hot and the suction line is at least somewhat cold - that's all I know so far. <g>

So . . . What are I looking for? I can always just guess - but if you all already Know it might be better. <g>

Here's the pressure and troubleshooting charts from the '99 service manual. (1998 should be the same.)

Hey if you just switched the words "empty" and "full" here you would have your own answer! <g>

Maybe you should ask around among your co-workers - ask if you can borrow a hose to siphon some gasoline. Then if they have one - ask if they could show you how to use it. Any one which seems either overly familiar with the procedure on your Jeep - or or seems squirrelly and reluctant - I'd look at real hard for being the culprit. <g>

That would at least narrow the usual-suspects list down. <g>
