Battery terminals would be my first instinct. Also freshen your grounds (one at battery to fender, one at rear of valve cover to firewall) - sandpaper down to shiny metal and reattach.

Is it a direct swap if I replace my N242 transfer case with a N231? I have 2000 XJ D30 up front and Chrysler 8.25 29 spline in the back.

I don't know if I'm in the right forum or not, so please don't beat me up too badly if I'm not.

A good friend of mine has a '99 Grand Cherokee that has a grinding noise from the front end. He doesn't want to fool with it so he wants to sell it to me for $500.
I am not aware of any other problems with it, but I don't exactly know what the common problem areas are for this vehicle. Is there a list of things I should pay close attention too?
I've read tons of posts about the grinding noise which could be anything from brake pads to the diff. I can more than hold my own with tools and wouldn't be too afraid to tackle this.
Are there any other trouble areas?

Hopefully, I'll be a good contributor here, like I am on other forums.

Joe

What is a renix engine? What is the other variant? Why is one better than the other? What year I6 had the HO heads and are they better than a factory 92 head? I have lots of questions that I will save for later if I could just get these answered for now. Thanks

I have seen two stock tire carriers, which do you have? a pic?
one style attaches to the bumper on two points and the passenger side of the body at one and the other attaches to one point on the bumper and one point on the hatch either way you will need all the hardware or it will be a pain to install it
