Not trying to hijack syco, I just don't want to post a thread for a little question.
I installed a thermostat yesterday, Stant Superstat 195, as well as a new thermo housing. I had been awake for going on 24 hours and may have installed it sideways, or even upside down. The spring is in the engine block as it should be, so the wax will be in the coolant.
What would happen if I installed my thermostat sideways or upside down? Should I pull the thermo and orient it one way or another? I'd rather not if at all possible, I've been doing a massive coolant system flush and just put a quart of cleaner in there. I've sunk more money that I wanted to already and having to buy more cleaner would tick me off more than I care to admit, lol.
Thanks for the help folks.

They'll be waaaay too long. At 3.5" you need LCAs that are 16 1/4" long (1/2" longer than stock). JK Rear UCAs are 2" longer than stock, which is much too long. Using them would require relocating the mounting location.

If you're overheating, the system isn't burping out the air. The thermostats have holes at the top of the unit that allow the system but "burp" itself of air as needed. I'm guessing you probably installed it upside down so the holes are at the bottom, allowing an air pocket to form behind the thermostat. Best take it apart again and verify the orientation is correct before doing anything else.

He could be right though. A new, better, gasket will only cost me about 65 cents, the rest is just better for building up callouses and know how. I dunno, I'll report back on Monday probably when I drain & flush the system again.

OP should try 50/50 mix first. If that doesn't work he hasn't disturbed seal around thermo. Then remove thermo, look at and correct if neccesary, because its at the upper end of coolant lines he won't lose much coolant!
