1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee, radiator failed, vehicle overheated. Replaced radiator, engine still overheats, Heater gets NO heat whatsoever. Thermostat or water pump? Any hints?

i would just do the thermostate first. cheaper and easier but thats just me. or if you want to know for sure take the thermo out and test it at home before you go and get one. thats what i would do.

yup unless its a gas filled shock then its no good as they will extend themselves.

The impeller on the water pump is plastic. I've seen them break off. So I'd look at the water pump first.

Also run your engine let it get to normal operating temperature, take a rolled up magazine or newspaper and try to stop the radiator fan. If you can slow it down or stop it I would replace your fan clutch. I replaced mine for about 40 bucks and it was only four bolts. If your in there you might wanna replace it anyway.

For about 100 bucks, I would replace the shocks and steering stabilizer. Not a sermon, just a thought. Lol.

wow never heard of doing this. seems like a fun test.

also is your fan shroud in good condition ie not broken. believe it not that thing helps a ton with cooling.

I have a really frustrating problem, and would appreciate any ideas at all.

The situation: A '88 Laredo was driven(running perfectly) into a garage, the motor, sourced from a '91 Comanche sometime last year-
(and rebuilt before installed, but I misplaced the thrust bearing, hence the re-rebuild), -was removed from said XJ Laredo, taken down, bored .030" over, crank ground, valves ground and head resurfaced, comp cam installed with timing from previous rebuild used, all put back together, timing was double-triple-quadruple checked for correctness.
NO fire to coil wire, NO gasoline on spark plugs, nothing whatsoever happening, resistance on my ohm for the cps is -8.8 or so, nothing seems to be amiss at all, the pump comes on when the key is turned as per default, I am clueless, what is the problem? Any ideas at all?

I really don't know of anything else to check, most everything has been replaced at least once in the last year, the computer ground was redone by a shop after a similar incident, and it has given me NO starting problems since. I cannot find any scraped wires or any loose connections.

It proves your fan clutch is not heating up, hence pushing hard enough up against the fan and making it spin at the correct speed and moving enough air.simple test, important results.

oh i wasnt disagreeing just never heard of this method of testing the fan clutch or any method really come to think of it. makes perfect sense and something to add to the ol' knowledge bank thanks. like you said important results.

So if anyone has the grommet that goes from the MAP sensor to the throttle body and they wanna donate it to me that'll be awesome, just saying. Lol
