okay so im doing a 4x4 conversion soon on my 99 xj classic. people say "sell it and buy a 4wd" well it was free and has only 75k miles on everything. runs like a dream and is in really good shape so im just gonna keep and convert. havent picked up the donor 4x4 yet so im not sure on what my t/c is going to be. i like the 242 for the fulltime but also the non fulkltime of the 242 is very nice (or is it backwards?) anyways i made a list of parts im going to order once i find out what t/c im going with. question is will this build me a pretty sturdy rig? i eventually plan on puttin fullwidth d60s under it also but thats way down the road.

I have searched cause I know I have seen this some place but can't find it tonight.

So I wanted to kinda of make sure I am running the right weight fluids in my XJ. I know everyone has there own opinon as brands of oil go, I am more looking for ie. 10w 40......
Also Front and Rear differntails, Transfer Case, Transmission AW4. Also I have read that DOT 5 is the best brake fluid out there cause it does not brake down when it gets wet or water in it. Safe for the Jeep?

Currently I use Dexton III for the Transmission, Front diff I just drained and used 75W 90 Mobil 1 Full Synthetic, Motor oil I just changed with 10W 40 Castrol Full Synthetic.

This might be a no brainier to some, and I know cars somewhat. But I would hate to be the guy that thinks hes extending the life of his Jeep but in turn is actually damaging it with the wrong fluids.

This is a bit of a followup from the radiator problems I had a long time ago. 92 4.0 2wd

You guys were right, I had to replace my radiator. I got the new one in and cracked open the old one, and good golly miss molly you should have seen the sediment build up in there. It looked like mud, and I surely had to replace that radiator.

Anyway, radiator in, heater and rad hoses replaced, system burped after initial fill, all went rather smoothly. Now, the overheating is greatly improved, but it isn't gone completely. She'll rise just a little above 210, but cools back down after a short while, usually while moving faster. The thermostat is new, it works fine and was installed with air holes at the top to allow bubbles to escape. Also the water pump is working great as coolant is being circulated just fine.

I'm guessing there's a bubble still in the system? I know to keep my eye on the level over the next, well, not sure how long, but make sure to top it off regularly as the air moves out of the system. After that, if the problem doesn't go away, maybe the fan clutch?

Next issue is that the engine feels a little bogged down and idle will sometimes drop very low, something like 500, maybe even lower. I wouldn't think my idle would be affected by a radiator and cooling system flush, so maybe the Idle air control needs a cleaning?

And one last quick question, a missing muffler will make my gas mileage suck even more, wouldn't it?

Bobisawesome, roll up a news paper or magazine. With your engine running at normal operating temps see if you can slow down or stop your radiator fan. If you can replace your fan clutch. Mine was 40 bucks. I would do it anyway, its only a few bolts.

i have a 95 jeep cherokee i was wanting to do the neon injector upgrade well i pulled 2 different types of plugs i have 6 of each the first one the last 3 digits are 740 the electrical connection is the same. the second ones have 782 as the last 3 digits and have the same electrical connector as a 2000 xj my question is will the first ones work? second will the second ones work if i get the electrical connector?
