I took my 89 cherokee laredo in to the shop for an ABS problem. Turns out the ABS pump needed replaced. after replacing that, i still hadn't got it back for a long time. a LONG time. turns out the prior worker who was handling it no longer is "with them" and they have the veteren mechanics trying to find out whats going on. The front left brake pulls the car when you brake. He said it only does this maybe every 2 or 3 test drives, but they can't find out what is causing it. I am starting to get worried. any ideas?

I believe according to the fuse box map out in the owner's manual that the fuse for the overhead console, courtesy lights, and dome lights are all just one fuse. But regardless, I will go out and check. Unless you're perhaps referring to some component within the OC itself. I took it down yesterday for a brief glance over and then put it back up. I didn't see anything that looked broken but I'll have to take a more detailed look at it maybe later this week or over the weekend.

Mine didn't originally come with an overhead console and I just added one to my jeep. I searched it for awhile before I attempted to install one and on the grand Cherokee console everything I found out about it is that it wouldn't be a direct swap. If the compress and temp isn't showing and all the wires to it check out fine you should just head to the junkyard and pick a couple up. I bought my own overhead console for 10 bucks at the yard so just the comp/temp part shouldn't be too much more then that I would think.

ahh ****. Wish you had posted about this before taking it to a shop. There is a recall on your "Bendix 9" ABS system.

They told me they checked the recalls on it. What do i tell them without making them even more annoyed with my calls to know what was going on?

my head lights are aimed fine from left to right its the up and down, and the concentration of the beams like. they arent diffused nearly enough. would that be an issue with the housing?

Ok, gonna ask a contriversal question here, besides Your opinions, and body style, what is really the difference in a say, my Yj, which has a 4.0 hi output in line 6, 5 sp. And the same in a xj of the same? Engine are the, trans are the same. Right? I heard that the xj has a better flowing exhaust, because the yj had more bends, but thats due to the size and shape of the yj they couldn't use the same bends as the xj being its size and shape. Im sure this was a question asking for punishment, but in all honesty, with same engine and tranny, not being disrespectful, just courious, what is the real difference?

In all honesty yj's are lighter and xj's breath better. All in all engines are the exact same.

hey there. i just got a 98 xj i love it. 4x4 is crazy. 4in lift sitting on brand new 32in kuhmo mts. but it just all of a sudden started cutting out. it only does it in park or neutral. it runs great as long as its in gear. im not very vehicle savy so i have no clue. here is what i have done already. keep in mind the check engine light isnt on.
1 fresh gas and fuel injector cleaner
2 took off and cleaned throttle body completely
3 iac cleaned
4 battery teminals cleaned
5 listened and sprayed for a vacuum leak
6 drank a beer while rubbing my head in confusion
7 checked all fluids
8 new o2 sensor

The junk yards must be awesome where you live, here in southern california they pretty much suck. A lot of them are located down closer to the border and usually only have one type of random car like just a bunch of old volvos or something. I was originally thinking about doing what you did but coming across a good cherokee to pick over down here in the first place will be tough. As for just the computer for the temp and compass, I heard you can buy a new one from the dealer or one off of ebay but it'll cost big bucks.

search nss neutral safety switch
clean, replace, be happy. I've found it can be culprit to many problems that one would assume unrelated. Worst case you cleaned something that didn't need it but learned more about your rig
hope this helps
