The electric fan in my 99 XJ seems to cycle ALL THE TIME; even shortly after start up. Is this normal, or should I be looking for a bad sending unit for the fan?

Question Engine bay hiss

I have been trying to track down this noise in my '01 for the longest. It almost sounds similar to when you unhook the brake booster hose, but it's coming from the passenger side near the headlight. Any ideas?

Hey Dukie, check this out please and let me know what you think.

Some pretty nasty clunking at my feet. Does not occur While in gear and on the gas. Only occurs as soon as you let off the gas or push in the clutch. It will do it at idle, in neutral, when warm, but not when its cold. The previous owner says he had a shop do a replacement clutch kit but didnt notice the clunking when he drove the vehicle home from the shop. Also, i ran my vin # and it says my XJ came with an automatic trans. Could the P.O. have ruined something when he did the swap? Does this sound like anything you have heard of before? Any suggestions would be a great help, thanks!

Vac leak from possibly the cruise control module or vacuum ball those are the lines that run there. But does your rpms go up where you hear the noise?

sounds like a bad tranny mount or a bad ujoint in the rear shaft. That's where i'd start.

Try turning your key to the on position, make sure you're in park/neutral, and crossing the terminals on your starter, with a screwdriver. RUBBER HANDLE WOULD BE IMPORTANT! Or pliers, whatever.. just so it's insulated. Get a good connection between the large positive and ground connections. If it starts your jeep like normal, the issue is between the ignition switch and the NSS.
There is also a much more detailed write-up for troubleshooting this issue, if you search it on here.. this was just how I determined my issue.
Found the issue bud lol. The negative ground on the starter is lose as a @#+$*%?. So I tighten her down and boom starts again Haha

That black button on the left, where a 12v outlet used to be, is how I start mine up. ..the way I have it, still needs the key in the ignition. But, that's for security's sake(as well as my own piece of mind!)

I have a tiny buildup on the side of a contact point in my distributor cap. The #6 spark plug (if that is the back) has a tan colored gritty buildup on the white part around the electrode. It looks be be burned a little more than the others in that same area. What might that be? The rest of the spark plugs look good, just a few scorch marks past the electrode a bit.

The noise starts as soon as i start the engine, and no, the RPMs are normal. Should I still check the module you mentioned?

Ok here's another deal lol. New back brakes and drums. They will not stop squeeking. No matter what. Les schwab has had it twice and they have no idea why they are doing it. It's annoying as heck. When I stop and start going its happens bad. What can I do? HELP

Don't know if this will help, but I had similar problem with '87 Cherokee, automatic transmission; totally dead-no start in park. Plenty of volts in the battery and lights would come on, but no joy when key was turned to start. Was asked to attempt to start in neutral, and that solved my problem.

Ive always been taught that 80% of brake squeaks are caused by vibration. Two metal components are touching and begin to rub and make noise. Also the make of the friction materials on the shoes. Semi metallic frictions seem to cause the most noise and dust. Ceramic is probably the best IMO, but the most expensive.
