Yes in neutral. When I put the tranny back in gear I grind. If I go to 2 wheel, then in gear drive forward and shift into 4 hi. No grinding.

You might have to adjust the linkage possibly. We have on the fly TC the 231 meaning that we can go Into 4hi while driving up to about 20mph. For 4lo at most you should only roll at about 2-3mph and go into neutral on the transmission then shift through the TC and then go into drive. For you to be grinding means itisnt shifting properly

This is going to be a long Question, hopefully you guys can read it all But hopefully someone can help me out here! I have an 89 xj 4wd 4.0, but when driving my gears shift to quickly even when I have im flooring the pedal. My passing gear is not downshifting, it just sucks in a lot of air and slowly speeds up, I tried adjusting the accelerator cable the way someone in here posted. But still did not work. I changed the TCU the solenoids from the valve body. I did noticed one thing though the accelerator cable on the valve body is a bit loose. Could this be the issue or am I wrong, thinking bout changing it tomorrow. Please help ASAP!!!!

I am trying to determine if I have matching axle ratios without pulling the covers and counting teeth. The rear axle seems to have a limited slip (both wheels turn forward while jacked up). The front axle is open.

R) axle, 1 turn of the wheel = 4.250 turns of the drive shaft.
F) axle, 1 turn of the wheel = 2.00 turns of the drive shaft.

Is the procedure the same for an open diff as it is for a LS? Should I be checking with the transfer case in 2wd or 4wd?

I checked the front with both wheels in the air as well as one on the ground. Both had same results.

I have a question about my oil pressure gauge in my 89 XJ. The gauge isn't giving a reading and I don't know if it's just the little pointer that possibly just gave up or what. Any help would be awesome. Thanks.

I just finished replacing the floor in my 96 Sport. The little red shifter marker now doesn't line up with the position windows. Is there an adjustment or did I brain fart and install something wrong? It works fine. Any one seen this?

Before you tear it all apart, push the clear plastic forward. It might be hard. Whenever I open mine I have to adjust the clear plastic afterwards.
