Would the rear quarter panel/body panel be strong enough to support one of those swing out tire carriers, similar to one found on a 2000 Chevy blazer? I believe they have 2 bolted down brackets that attached to the body. I know I would have to rig something up for the right bolt pattern so my wheel would fit on. I would have a 31 10.5 15 on it by the way.

Some xjs came with them, I don't know if they have reinforcement or not.

Default 2001 Cherokee Starter

The starter on my 2001 Jeep Cherokee isn't working. Where is it so I can try and get at it to at least start it and get it to my local shop? Or if it's not too difficult replace it myself? What would be a good temporary quick fix?

Assuming you have a 6, Go at it from your passenger's side, behind the tire.. you should be able to just slide under on your back.. it's right there, past the wheel well. If it truly needs to be replaced, it's incredibly easy.. just disconnect the negative battery cable, unplug the wire harness on the front of it, unbolt the other wire(s) and remove the mounting bolts.. grab your new one, and reverse the order of removal.
BEFORE ANY OF THAT, ttlry sliding your shift lever into neutral and starting it. Over time, many shift levers just need adjustment. Your neutral safety switch won't allow your engine to start, you're not completely out of gear.

I don't know about on the axle itself, but if you look at Wikipedia for our Cherokees, it pretty much lists exactly what engine/transfer/trans/axles/gears, etc came with each option, during each year of production.
..unless things have been replaced. Then, I guess you'd have to investigate further.

You can always spin the driveshaft and count its rotations vs the tires to get your ratio.
