Ok on my 87 xj there is no ballast resistor but my 88 mj has one. Can i bypass the 88s? The problem is: today i replaced the fuel filter and in doing so i (tried) released the fuel pressure at the rail. Well when i hit the shrader valve only a couple drops dribbled out......since ive owned it its had a stumble probelm upon take off/ low rpms but is fine after that......ballast resistor looks brand new.

Anyone have any tips or ideas on how to get my tie rod loose? I'm trying to do an alignment and the tie rod won't budge even with 190 pounds on a pipe wrench. I read the go jeep alignment article and it said I only need to loosen the tie rod, but another website says to also loosen the adjusting sleeve on the trackbar or something.

I'm curious. If it was used in F150's, a full size truck, and in Crown Vic's and Mustangs. Why is it not a full size axle? I know it is not full floater or a 1 ton axle but it is used in a lot of full size cars and trucks.
I am just wondering what you consider a full size axle. It is stronger than a D44 and almost as strong as a 9 inch when the 8.8 has the 31 spline axles. I think you just have to weld the axle tubes so that they don't spin in the housing and it is a tough axle option. The carrier is the next thing and if you put in a aftermarket limited slip or air locker that is addressed.

Remove both clamp bolts completely. Open up the clamps a bit with a screwdriver, then slip them off the sleeve, out of the way.
Use a wire brush, clean it up. The sleeve is split at the ends, so the clamps can squeeze it tight. Wirebrush the slots out, then apply penetrating oil to the slots.
Using 2 hammers - one as heavy as you can find (6 or 8-pound sledge works good), and one normal hammer - hold the heavy hammer against the opposite side of the sleeve as backup, then rap the sleeve with the lighter hammer. You don't have to whale on it, just keep rapping it all the way around as much as possible. Do both ends. Don't worry, you're not going to pinch it on - it actually expands the sleeve over the threads.
Then it will be loose

My tires are in a "v" shape, and they aren't straight up and down, the tire is wearing on the outside. Is this a camber issue? I have a 3" lift with stock trac bar and stock control arms.

Sounds like an alignment issue. The camber is part of that, and can be checked & corrected if needed, up to a point. You may need LCA drop brackets to correct the issue. JMO

Then research at home alingments to learn how to see what ur caster is and if its within specs and possibly fix that with the shims or new control arms. U should also be able to learn (off same search how to check ur camber (cherokees are not adjustable unless u have special balljoints) if ur camber is off ur looking at bent knuckles or axle housing. U can also learn how to set toe in. If you currently have to much toe in that could possibly be the outside tread wear if it wasnt aligned after the lift/tires. Also search the tire pressure chalk test if ur running oversized tires for proper pressure
Edit: my opinion is to check how far off everything is and if its within easy adjustment let the shop do it. Usually garunteed work and they are professionals but that's just me

Thanks guys for the help. I found a website that says that too much toe in will wear the outside of the tires, and I'm pretty sure the front if my tires are an inch closer together than the back of my tires. Since I can't get my tie rod loose whatsoever, I'm pretty sure I'm just gonna have to give out the 70$. I just don't want to do that if I might get new control arms soon. Oh well.
need help on how to adjust shifter cable - 89 xj
i believe my shifting cable needs adjusting as i can no longer shift in 1-2 gears, all instructions i can find say the unclip the adjustment clip, i cannot find an adjustment clip, it is supposed to be on the transmission end of the cable on the ds. did it just fall off? thanks in advance, i'd appreciate some pictures of a properly assembled one and possibly the procsss

if i remeber correctly ur toe should only be like an eighth either direction at most but i forget which way they are supposed to be set the sad part is i should know this. also i usually heat them a little bit with the torch and im not talking the propane torch either i use an oxy acetaline kit. that loosens them up and i use a monkey wrench to get them to turn mine is about 2 foot long
