HELP!!!!!!! HELP!!!!!!!! I drove my heap to wallyworld ABOUGT two miles from home and when I got back I smelt gas really strong looked at my tank and found this I just put $60 in it and can't afford to let that go away what should I do!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you need to plug it immediately, a good temp fix is wax.. like, if you have a wax ring for a toilet, rub that over the puncture until the leak stops.. quick, very temporary fix.

Default Front Axle U-Joint Questions

I have a 2000 Jeep XJ. Do Dana 30 Front Axle U-Joints go bad? If so, when should you replace your U-Joints or do you just replace the whole axle? What tests should be performed to check the functionality of the front axles?

Any information will be greatly appreciated!

certainly they go bad after a while. Usually you'll hear (or feel) them clicking around corners.

You don't need to worry about replacing them until they do go bad, and you can replace just the joint - no need to replace the whole axle shaft. To see if a u-joint is bad, grab onto it with one hand on each side of the joint and twist. If there is any movement between the two sides when you twist (like it's loose), then the joint is bad and needs to be replaced.

As far as functionality are you talking about the 4x4?

My 4X4 is functioning properly. Thank you for the info. I will test the axle with your instructions. If I notice any play in the U-Joint, I will replace it.

Here ya go, the other items in my cart were the cragar chrome center caps as well as the valve stems. The stems I'm wondering if I should order online or see if I can get some cheap when I get my tires. What do you think guys?

don't order the valve stems. The shop that mounts the tires will install valve stems at the same time, and it's usually included in the package price. Even if you gave them valve stems to use they probably would use their own anyways.

True fact, I work at a tire service center. We usually put rubber valves if there's no monitoring system, it's included in the price and it's part of the package.

I just broke the handle off the dip stick while changing my oil. I was luckily able to get the stick out with needle nose, but I lost the little gasket in the process and now I don't really know what to do...

I'll replace the whole stick when I get the opportunity, but as this Jeep is my DD I'm hoping there is a fix I can do at home to get her runnin for the time being until I can get the the junk yard.

Any advice would be appreciate.

Oh, I see. Well I have seen people with water in their oil drive with it like that for years. They had a small leak and didn't care and just drove it. But there is no guarantee that it is not damaged. There is still oil circulating through everything, it just has some water in it. 1 mile each way and driving it easy may keep it from getting damaged.
I would give it a shot but I have done stuff like this before and it was a 50/50 chance. lol
I bet it is okay though.

You need to get under it and look to see where it is coming from. Maybe pull your gas tank skid plate. I bet it is just something easy. Hose, fitting or maybe the giant O-Ring for the sending unit access hole. Don't panic.
