I checked out dukies build thread. I like the cowl intake of his. Simple. And doesnt look bad at all. But i really like the looks of that intake i linked to. And i like the fact it removes the factory airbox all together.
My only hang up now is that the included filter is like a k&n and needs oiled. Its a pretty unique shape and i dont know if i could find a paper replacement. But i will probably bite the bullet and get it this week.

Love it, but a bit noisy. But then again I have no carpet/insulation so everything's noisy. If I hadn't gotten this, I would have followed dilutes write-up.

As for the cost of that intake. I don't think $150 is bad, when compared to ones that cost $250 and still take it from the engine compartment.
Another plus is I can then use my stock air box from my dd in my trail rig which needs one to fix the front end damage. Then I can make a cowl intake similar to yours. I wanted a snorkel but I just despise how they look.

Nice! Was your filter wet at all? Just curious.

Nice pics dukie, always nice to see the cowl intake in action! Or any XJ for that matter
Hah! Retailer here sells the official K&N kit for $530 :P
I take it you want to get rid of the stock airbox to free up some room? I just thinks it's crappy - I'm looking for a larger air cleaner from a truck or tractor that takes a canister style filter, but will still fit in the stock location. Like this: http://go.jeep-xj.info/HowtoAirFilter.htm

I will definitely have to find a paper replacement for the filter element. I dont want to deal with oiling a filter. Got enough fluids to keep track of.
Im pretty sure this is the one the kit uses:

Anyone seen a paper filter like that. ?
