Default TIPS PLEASE

I just recently bought a stock 01 Xj and am fixing to start the mod process. I wanted to know if anyone has any input on things I need to do first before I jump into lift, exhaust etc. Im getting a leaky heater core replaced this week under dealership warranty but what other non obvious nasty things should I look for ie exhaust manifold ticking. Thanks for any tips or advice.

maintenance first - mods later

complete fluid change (oil, trans, transfer case, coolant, and both differentials), full tuneup (spark plugs, fuel injector cleaner, seafoam application, air filter).

Look for a wet oil pan near the drain - it's a sign of either a valve cover gasket, oil filter adapter, and/or oil pan gasket leak, and could be a bad rear main seal.

When considering a small lift (2 inches) is there any benefit of going with either aal or shackles? I'm trying to determine which route I should go with and what I'll be sacrificing if I go with one or the other.

Depends on how your rear springs are and what kind of cash you'd like to spend. With any springs, shackles will give you a bit of lift as well as better articulation as the leaf springs get longer when they are compressed. However, this is only really a concern once you get the reeally arched springs in there. An AAL can work well for small lifts, thing is if your leaf packs are toast in the first place, it won't give you as much lift as you expect and can wear out fast. But - if your springs are great or you can get replacements for cheap an AAL would be a good option. Might want to ask this in the Advanced Tech forum, this isn't an OEM type question lol.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I'll ask in a thread in advanced when I get home from work.

How much are you willing to spend on a lift? Old man emu makes fantastic small lifts.

I have a automatic 90 xj with 250,000 miles and I've had the problem for a while, I usually can't start it in park I have to put it in neutral and some times wiggle the shifter while trying to start it. Has anyone else had this problem?

Neutral Safety Switch - very common issue.

You can buy a new one to the tune of about $300, or you can spend an hour cleaning it

should be ok if they kept fluid in it, but you can find them for a lot cheaper from a junkyard or part-out.
