Yup. Electronically, the TPS is similar to a volume **** you'd find on the stereo. Basically bolt your throttle plate to one of those ***** and rotate it, and that's how the computer knows how much gas it should dump in. More "volume" = more air going into the engine and hence more fuel should be supplied. If the computer thinks that all of a sudden the throttle is at MAX, it's going to dump in so much fuel that it'll stall out. This would be similar to a bad volume **** that crackles when you touch it.
As for warming up, since the intake manifold sits directly above the exhaust any heat is going to wind up in that area. As the metals warm up their resistance and shape can change... also whatever goo might be in the way could get warm enough to not interfere as much.

I have been lurking around and see alot talk about the exhaust manifold and what to replace it with I see the banks, apn and the obx. Does the one you get at autozone, advanced auto or O' reilys any count? This is the one they all sell Dorman brand I think?

Like second week of the XJ the manifold cracked. The guy I bought it from was able to convince his friend to get shop discount pricing on a unit that looks just like that and install it on a weekend for cash. I've done some reading since then.
Anyway I wouldn't really call it a performance header. Better than stock, but not set up in the same way as a Banks etc.

Hi everyone! I am in the market of finding an XJ and I stumbled upon one that has had a NP231 to NP242J transfer case swap. I tried out the transfer case and everything feels fine BUT I noticed that the part-time and full-time lights are permanently on. The owner of the vehicle has receipts of this swap as it was done at a reputable place near my home.
My question is: do the part-time and full-time lights mean that something is seriously messed up or that a sensor is just bad somewhere?

hey im putting new shocks on in a few days so i figured id go ahead and thrown on rear shackles and front spacers while its on the lift. question is, if i put 3inches front and back will i need larger than stock shocks? cause i hate to admit it but right now im just a mall crawler cause i cant afford to break anything off road.
