The XJ Cherokee was sold with the NP242 (SelecTrac) with 2HI (Full Time), 4HI Full Time, 4HI Part Time, and 4LO (Part Time). Regarded as stronger by many is the NP231 (CommandTrac) which is a lot more common and has 2HI (Full Time), 4HI (Part Time) and 4LO (Part Time). Full time in this case meaning that the transfer case has an internal differential allowing for extra grip on surfaces like wet pavement or dry surfaces that aren't THAT loose. Part time is only appropriate for use on slippery surfaces as rear and front drive shafts are locked together.

No problem, welcome to the site and hope you find a nice XJ!
This section is only intended for XJ Cherokees as the Grand Cherokee (2001 is WJ model) is a different vehicle, you may have better luck in the Grand Cherokee section.
However if the CPS is any similar, did you actually buy a Mopar one from the dealer or did it say "OEM" on eBay or AutoZone or whatever?

Power/Comfort Switch
Power/Comfort switch was only on Renix (pre-91) cherokees with the automatic transmission. They did away with it on newer XJs.
Basically it only changes the shift points of the transmission. In comfort mode it shifts up sooner, making the gear changes less harsh (at least in principle). IN power mode it waits till the engine reaches higher revs (in it's power band) before shifting up.
The only time you'll notice a difference is under gentle acceleration, and cruising on hilly highways.
I recommend leaving it in power mode. In comfort mode it makes the engine work harder and burns more gas if you're like me and like to press down on the accelerator more than a 1/2 inch...The later model XJs without the power/comfort switch are permanently in "power" mode because of this.
