Sounds like the popping could be the u joints on ur front axle shafts.

Someone wanna direct me to a thread about biggest tires I can get with stock height? And fenders? But I can always cut them!

235/75/15 tires on stock height without rubbing. If you trim, you can run 31s, but you would want aftermarket wheels with less backspacing and it would help to replace your lower control arms. The stock LCAs are square and have a lip on them. Most aftermarket LCAs are round, and this helps to prevent rubbing.

That's how I fixed my popping issue as well. And my trackbar was new. Crank that sucker down tight.

I know mine is right, just did an axle swap. To make easier to work I removed all steering components. Then touqered everything

Cool but I can watch track bar move back and forth on the axle while turning wheel back and forth

What is the "actual gear ratio" for an xj with stock tires and 3.07 gears? I'm planning on regearing and I want to keep the actual as close to stock as possible. I have a 5 speed and 31s. I don't want to go too low and kill my freeway ability but I need lower than my 3.07s so I can get some power back.

I would say 3.55 or 3.73 to keep your "dd" abilty... 4.10's would be sweet if you wanted to go bigger on the tire size... use a gear calculator chart

With that setup 3.55 will restore power and be geared just a bit more aggressively than stock. A 32" tire should be an exact match I think. I've got 3.55s an 31s here in my yard waiting for the lift. 3.55s are reeaaally east to find, too, what with all these guys with automatics upgrading.

The axles are the same. You just need the right amount of splines, dont matter what gear ratio is

Do you mean just axles or the whole entire differential etc? If just axles yea need set from what you have now, spline count wise and Dana 35, 44, 8.25
