235/75/15 tires on stock height without rubbing. If you trim, you can run 31s, but you would want aftermarket wheels with less backspacing and it would help to replace your lower control arms. The stock LCAs are square and have a lip on them. Most aftermarket LCAs are round, and this helps to prevent rubbing.

Still poppin'....
I replaced my track bar over the weekend. There was a popping sound which, during inspection, the mechanic/inspector identified the track bar as the source of the sound. It was the original track bar and it appeared somewhat worn at the ball joint end. It was also easy to move the ball joint by hand, so it seemed obvious that it was time for a replacement.
After breaking the bolt at the axle tube end and suffering the chase for replacement hardware I come to find that the popping sound is still there - every time I begin the steering transition into a curve.
What gives? What else can generate that "pop" under the described conditions? I feel it through the floorboard, not through the steering wheel...

What is the "actual gear ratio" for an xj with stock tires and 3.07 gears? I'm planning on regearing and I want to keep the actual as close to stock as possible. I have a 5 speed and 31s. I don't want to go too low and kill my freeway ability but I need lower than my 3.07s so I can get some power back.
