Recently my XJ has been running at good temps, fine on the open rode at the first mark so mathematically 160... I think the last time i put in a thermo (first of the year ish) that it was a 180 but now thinking about it more and where the gauge sits it could have been a 160 they gave me but i doubt it... anyway, in idle its starting to heat up really quick and get up at 210 and just a little past on the gauge and if the fan is on via my switch it still doesnt want to come down a whole lot but then when i start moving it cools right down. So basically im getting hot at idle and everything is full and the antifreeze is as green as it went in... What does this sound like given this info:
No shroud, wont fit with the fan clutch for whatever reason... just wont fit
E fan works and is wired up right via my write up
New er radiator (3 or 4 years old now)
Same age on the water pump
New hoses upper and lower
Fresh coolant and flushes
New fan clutch

For the record, mine gets up to 210 idling in 3-5 minutes with a 195* thermostat in 100*+ weather, sometimes it creeps a little past, but always drops back down. I would look at your radiator.

I would make that fan shroud fit, I ground the bottom lip off and it slid right over my gigantic clutch.

My first thoughts were rad or water pump... and either way im going to a 195 thermo so my heat is warmer this year... still not sure what to do cause it just cools down so quick when i drive and it used to not heat up so fast (like a week ago) with the e fan on but idk whats going on

I got it free and fixed it in 6 min so I'm in it nothing.
