Problem:
1997 Cherokee Country, 4.0L, new starter, alternator tested good, new battery. Only in the mornings, when it's relatively cool and/or humid here in VA, I go to start the thing and it won't turn over. The radio goes out just like it would if it were to actually crank, but nothing happens at all. No check engine light for at least the past year.

Later in the day, when everything is warmer, it will start right up.

Also, the NSS is a year old. I've moved the shifter up and down to see if that was it, and it's not. I'm at a loss, fellas... and I've searched all I can. This has been going on for 2 weeks now. I replaced the starter with a new one, (not reman) as people told me it was a dead spot. I don't get it.

Clean your battery posts and replace the wire terminals with new ones.

i have 130k on my transmission, i want to do a fluid change and filter change. i dont think it has ever been done. are there guidelines i should follow to prevent damage to my transmission? also my manual says to use dextron II but everyone on here says dextron III. ANY advice is greatly appreciated.

Wink Instrument Panel Lights

I've seen posts like this before, but my fuse has been looked at and replaced and cannot locate another reason,,,,,now my temperature guage is not working and I replaced the engine temp sensor just to make sure it was not the sensor going bad.......anyone direct me to a more logical location to fix this electirical issue before it gets any worse??

Dexron III is the more modern equivalent of Dexron II

Have you made sure the connection to the sensor has a firm grip on it?

If it's that old you should definitely stay away from a power flush - just a simple oil and filter change. Dexron III is a fine replacement for Dexron II - just watch out for the ATF+4 stuff. It has been known to cause slipping.

IIRC... The Dex/ Mex numbers and what not are just for addditives as cars get newer?

Nooo idea, I can't find any specs online Just internet people saying "D3 is better and backwards compatible" without any references.

I need help, with my engine. Still skipping after trying every thing I know, timing, carb, vacum, control mod, compression, dist. Cap, plugs wires, plugs. I'm at a loss. Any ideas? Thanks

yes, when the sensor at the front of the engine was replaced I made sure that the electrical connector was still good and tight,,,,,,cannot imagine the wire was pulled to impact the inside cluster so just looking for a more logical approach

Question. My exhaust is cracked and I know the noise it makes. But this morning coming to school I came off the high way and when I came to the stop light I heard this weird gurgle noise. It came and when I stopped it went. When I let off the gas it happens. Thought maybe the water pump. It sounds like like it's coming from the passenger side of the engine bay.

Any thoughts?

Actually, my cracked manifold made this noise. The crack had grown and made a visible hole in it.

unless its the newer xj style that uses a dual purpose temp sensor you have a second sensor at the back of the head that controls your gauge
