look for a yellow rubbery plug (socket) like in the picture above.
It should be UP behind the lower dash panel.

that may be the plug for door speakers or even the plug for the wires that go to the yellow rubbery socket, but it will be bent all out of shape if you force a bulb or LED fixture in there.

Lie your head on the floor, then look up, and over near the doorway bulkhead above the hood release.

 

How did you replace the bulb for the 4 wheel drive light on the center console? It is a pain in the *** for me and I can't figure it out.

To minimize hot spots in the transfer case and transmission, a 'bulb' with two LEDs, one on each face of the led board works well. Only issue I have with these is that they aren't super common and so far I can only find CANBUS enabled ones. They have resistors that help prevent problems in fancy vehicles, but just result in extra heat for ours. Anyway, these bulbs work by shinning light on the sides of the compartment and reflecting instead of projecting directly against the back of th bezel. Amazon has them... Probably other places too. 194 with 2 SMD 5050 chips. Found red green blue white and yellow if I remember.

 

All you do is pop the trim and pull the bulb. Install the new one in the same orientation. It takes all of about 2 seconds.

You're not looking hard enough. Avoid CANBUS...all my LED shopping experience, I had to specifically search for those if I wanted them. eBay, SuperBrightLEDs both easily have the 360 degree LEDs ready to ship to ya. All of SBL's LEDs have the resistors built in that allow for dimming. CANBUS is for computer-controlled systems, which our lights in our Jeeps are not.

 

Has anybody else had an issue with their transfer case bulbs going out on them? I've gone through like 3 bulbs in 4 months. Every other bulb has held up find but it's only in my transfer case. Thoughts?

 

Yup same problem. Got some 5 smd bulbs dirt cheap off ebay and none burned out yet.

 

The one in my trans shift bezel burned out...damn cheap eBay leds

 

How do you gain access to the bulbs in the hvac controls?

 

Pull the bezel, unscrew the panel, disconnect the electrical, you've now freed the panel. The bulbs have twist wedge bases and are removed with a flathead screwdriver.

 

Have you done this before? I was looking today and the fan speed and hot/cold controls are easy to disconnect but I can't figure out how to disconnect the middle control. What am I missing?

 

If I remember correctly there is a tab or two you can gently pry with a small screwdriver. Any how just take a closer look. The solution is there.

 

You know what, I remember that middle big round connector being a real *****. I think I removed and installed the bulbs with it still attached. Was a ***** in itself especially when you have to remove one you just installed to reverse the polarity. Use a small flat head. The switch panel is a lot easier to service.

 

Yup that's what I did. Remove the black front plate to see where the bulbs are and remove them from behind using feel. End result
