I've been reading around and it looks like they changed the door hinge set up somewhere in 97. Repairing the doors is an option as well, I think the rears might be too far gone.

The more I read about these things the more my mod list grows.

The main idea for this heep is that I want it to look relatively stock, but be capable should I need to off road it. I'm thinking 3" lift and some proper tires. Small driving lights (modified to run 55w Hids) Homebrew hidden winch bumper. Rear disc conversion off a ZJ.

The interior will be getting a complete overhaul of some sort. I cannot stand it. The interior looks like 5 people were drinking 44 oz cups full of rum and coke without lids while off roading.

I don't care if I have to drop an entire engine in this thing to get it on the road. Whatever it needs.
I am hoping that the rain goes away and I can actually wrench on the thing a bit tomorrow. I am eager to see what's going on with this engine.

There were 151,230 cherokees made in 1990. By my logic that means mine is a lucky SOAB to have landed me for an owner, and there are probably a ton of these in the local pick and pulls.

i've been working on my car in snow lol. my car is gonna be drivable tomorrow hopefully. yeah i got my jeep like a week ago and i really want to mod it. Mine looks ok, 3 inch lift with 31" tires. not to fancy.

I'm hoping that the temps get back down and this crap turns to snow so that I can make some $$$. It should not be raining in Dec.

I think 3" lift is just right visually for a xj that is mostly a street beast. I'm kind of a suspension nut, so I am sure it wont be long before this thing goes up a couple few inches. My other car is on coil overs so I can change up the ride height depending on the wheels I am running. Have you posted pics of your 89?

I forgot about 1 last christmas party at my moms place today so I may not get much time to work on my truck today. I have to go over there for a while and play with my nephews and give them their gift. I get them legos for every birthday and christmas. Soon they will have millions of legos.

I will get out there and do something to it later, it all depends on how much my mom feeds me.

someone had posted pics of the freeze plugs from under the truck in another thread, so I was hoping I may get away with popping the leaky one out and new one in from underneath.

I can see and reach the sucker with a screwdriver, but can't get a good angle on it to pop it out. Luckily it appears to be one on the side of the block leaking. Looks like I have to pull the intake and exhaust though. SOAB. Also it looks like one of my exhaust manifold bolts is missing, or broken.

I found out that I have a plug in heater installed in my lower radiator hose. Found a plug dangling under the truck and traced it to the heater. It looks old, so I will test it out.

I did the racing trick and pinned and epoxied mine in the last time around. But I remember the hell of doing it, I pinholed the #1 freeze plug so I had quite the coolant fountain display all the time.

what is the procedure for pinning them?

Oh, you so don't wanna know....
You drill 2 small holes across from each other (mine are 3 & 9 o'clock), and tap in small, solid roll pins. Then you have to epoxy the pins, holes and edges of the freeze plug.

I'm tellin ya, it's a REAL PITA....

There is only one that is leaking, at least I hope. The others that I can see are dry.

I picked up a 2" rubber freeze plug for 3 bucks to replace the leaky one. It has two metal washers with a bolt thru it, you pop it in there and tighten the bolt, which expands the rubber and locks it in.

hey guys I am tearing the truck down at the moment. I have the air box, injector rail, etc off and now I need to pull the PS pump.

I found what appears to be a belt tensioner under the PS pump, but even after loosening the bolts on the pump it does not release the belt.

What is the proper procedure to remove the serp. belt please? I am gonna take a break and go get a burger and I will check back in a bit.

Behind the PS pump in the back there are like 3 14mm bolts you have to loosen those. and then it will allow the pump to move side to side.

excellent thanks stryker, I must have overlooked some bolts I bet. I just wanted to verify that the PS pump was indeed able to be moved before I go breaking things.

You need a dose of patience to work on a 19 year old vehicle. They are a little old and brittle in spots.
