Meh it works for me so to each its own. He has idleing issues from what i think. My rpms were around 2k and my jeep just seem accelerated so i changed my sensor and it was all good after that. I have 98 xj 2dr 5 speed. NO cruise control on min.

I've always had good experiences with Seafoam too in my cars and trucks. I did it to my Jeep I just bought the day after I bought it and it runs noticeably stronger.

My '87 used to do the same thing, randomly rev itself up. One time I was pulling into a parking spot and it rev'd up all by itself, had to push the clutch in so I wouldn't hit the car in front of me.
Keep in mind, it didn't have cruise control and a friend of mine told me to index the distributor as it could cause that. Took us about an hour to index and it never did it again after that.
Cruiser54 do you remember anything like that? Its been 10 years (and 5 jeeps) since I've owned that jeep

The only two things that can physically move the throttle are your foot and the cruise servo. Leaky vacuum control valve (in the servo assembly) could theoretically operate the servo with the cruise turned off.

Thats sorta what I was thinking. Is it possible the module kicked its self on for some reason? I have tried to get it to do it again and it did just not as bad as yesterday morning. Its an 89' 4.0 AW4 trans with np231 case. Dont know if that info helps any.

Check for vacuum leaks. Spray the lines with starter fluid while the engine is running. If it idles up at any point then inspect the area for a leak. But first disconnect the cruise at the throttle body before you kill someone.

I've recently had a similar problem. Jeep accelerates hard, pedal drops as if on resume accelerate. I apply brakes and it disengages. It promptly reengages as soon as I release brakes. Over and over. Seems random. Sometimes cruising, sometimes after slowing. No bumps or jolts. Found out today I can stop it from immediately reengaging by flicking cruise control switch to the right( set / resume accel I think. I don't know for sure as the lettering is worn off. Cruise controls have never worked in the year we've owned it. Only thing I've done recently is reconnect / replace driver side window regulator motor. And showed someone the nest of wires that hang in the dash from the previous owners hasty stero removal. I just need to know how to stop it from happening again. I'm guessing something is shorting out, but if there's a way to bypass. Or pull the cruise control that'll work for now.

I seem to remember reading about a recall about this. All the more reason to have a manual tranny without cruise
