Default XJ Stalls Under Light Accelleration

My jeep has stalled twice now in the past couple days. Each time, I was accellerating. The engine idles and cruises fine. I can shift into neutral and restart the engine without and issue while still rolling.

Also, the transmissions shift points seem to change a bit lately. One morning it wouldn't shift out of first until the engine hit 3000rpm under light throttle application.

Am I wrong in blaming the TPS for both issues, or do they seem like two separate issues?

Takes like literally 5 seconds to sweep test it.

yeah... fuel pressure would be next to rule in or out. Just make sure to test not only at idle, but driving too... including accel and decel as well.

Hello austinjoe,

We apologize for the inconvenience you're experiencing with your Jeep. It sounds like you're just looking for advice but if you decide you'd like to have the dealer take a look, let us know. Our team is available via direct message and would be happy to help.

Did you test both sides?

On Renix, they are 2 separate units in one body, unlike the 91 and later ones.

Ever done Tip 5 on my website?

Yes, I did. What is it, 17% for the flat output and 83% for the square? I had the tips open while I checked it. Everything seemed good.

The fuel filter has been on my mind for a while since I've never changed it, but there's no hesitation at all. The FPR was new in January.

I had your Renix Tips page open. Sorry, that was poorly worded.

I have never indexed the distributor. I'm not really sure what all that entails. I'll pop the cap off this morning and see if it needs to be cleaned up.

The rotor and contacts in the distributor were pretty crusty. I cleaned them up, but I will still get a new set.

I'll check out tip 13 when I get a little later when i have time.

Looks like checking out the distributor will need to wait until Friday when I have the day off. I'll be getting a new cap and rotor, too. I don't have a vise. Will that be an issue?

You can get by without a vice. Be sure you need indexing frst. Plugs and plug wires?
