I finally got it off at around 10pm. I got some titanium bits, and a much more expensive easy out. I was literally speechless when I saw how much difference it made. The drill bits I understood. I was making progress, but slowly. I can easily see how a crappy bit makes that true. Still, it made more difference than I would have guessed. The easy out though...Night and day. They weren't like the bits, doing the same thing just with different effectiveness. They weren't even playing the same game.
On the way home yesterday, I went to the local hardware store, and bought everything I could think of. The 1 1/4 socket, four or five different bit sets etc...you name it. I have stuff to return, but I'm glad.
New problem: The end of the screw is now stuck on the easy out.
I'll probably grind the cyliner flat on two sides so I can grab it with pliers and back it out with the drill. Right now my drill looks like a woodpecker that bit off more than it could chew.

I'd try to put the easy out in a vise (the part you care about preserving) and using locking pliers to remove the bolt in the opposite direction of the easy out (the part that you don't care to preserve).
