@ Bugout... that's pretty cool...
Over the years I've had pretty much every kind of bike there is. and final drive type too... chain, belt, shaft. And I may get flamed by the traditionalists.... but for the easy of maintenance I really liked my 07 Shadow V-twin with shaft drive. It was smooth, and only had to do maint. on the final drive when I did normal oil changes. No cleaning and adjusting like chains need as they go through their wear cycle.

I like shaft drives too except for one thing, The torque twist you get at the rear on slippery stuff.

Like oil, which is slippery. See we're still on-topic here.

Guys, I'll say this now...a decision was made, one of the mods carried it out, and it's done. Let it die here please. I have cleaned up several threads this morning, to keep it relevant to the OP's threads, eliminated the bickering portions...so let's just move on please. Thank you.

We don't seem to have Rotella here in England so I run an oil from Comma. It's a full synth 5w30 with 1200 whatsits of Zinc per doodad.
It's no more expensive than other oils so I just go with it.

I run Rotella because my motors literally run quieter with it. If not for that reason then I would run whatever. Obviously each engine is different from the next and some may be just fine without Rotella. I have tried other oils but not every other oil. So there very well may be another that will allow my motors to run quieter but why would I bother to try to find out which one when Rotella suffices? And I do recommend that someone try using Rotella and if the results are as mine are then great

There have been some changes in the oil industry. Shell Rotella T 15w40 is no longer a CJ4 oil. Neither is Chevron Delo 400. They both changed in the last 6 months or so.
If the oil companies wanted us to know, they would label the PPMs of ZDDP right on the jug, but apparently they want to keep us in the dark.
I contacted Amsoil and they told me that the Z-Rod 10W30 has 1450 PPM's of ZDDP, which I think should be enough, but not enough to damage a catalytic converter. Seems like a good solution but it's expensive and special order. Does anyone have the ZDDP numbers on easily obtainable oils?

Clean oil of the right type is cheap insurance against overhauls, IMO. I don't want to skimp, but getting Amsoil in Missoula is like pulling teeth.
