Question ZJ engine swap to XJ; accessories?

Looking at swapping a 98 ZJ engine into my XJ.
Aside from exaust issues, will the accessories work?
I really like the idea of having a belt tensioner instead of loosinging all powersteering pump bolts.
Are they the same parts; pumps, AC, alt etc?
Will the newer intake work?
Also, i do have an elec fan from a volvo i plan to put in in place of the clutch fan issue.

Thoughts? Tips? Issues?

Might help if you mentioned what model year you're swapping into

The ZJ belt routing is different because the water pump on the ZJ is where the fan is driven from. The ZJ alternator/A/C bracket is also different because there's no fan drive on it, but if you wanted to convert your XJ to two electric fans it would be perfect. You would have to run the XJ water pump too, otherwise the ZJ water pump would be into the radiator. The 96-98 intake and power steering pump and bracket are the key items for making the belt adjustment easier. The 99-2001 intakes will also work for the easy belt adjustments.

XJ Cherokee and ZJ Grand Cherokee 4.0L engine blocks interchange.

2000+ TJ Wrangler and WJ Grand Cherokee 4.0L engine blocks interchange.

XJ/ZJ blocks, and the 2000+ TJ/WJ blocks do not interchange without significant modifications. (1991 to 1995 YJ and 1997-1999 4.0L TJ Wrangler blocks will interchange in XJ/ZJ and visa-versa).

TJ/WJ 4.0L Engine blocks underwent clean sheet design changes effective in the 1999 WJ Grand and 2000 TJ Wrangler. These blocks are not interchangeable with XJ/ZJ engine blocks. The reason is motor mount bolt holes and belt driven accessory mounting bolt holes are in different locations, or not present at all, TJ/WJ vs. XJ/ZJ.

XJ: "Regular" (not Grand) Cherokees 84-01
ZJ: Grand Cherokee 93-98 (Gen1)
WJ: Grand Cherokee 99-04 (Gen2)
YJ: Wrangler 87-95 (Gen1)
TJ: Wrangler 97-06 (Gen2)

It's an 01. LOL I know the routing is different. Exactly why I asked

So far Ive told the AC bracket on the 01 is a little bit farther out to clear the COP. But Im replacing that with a pack anyway.

I am converting to a Volvo elec fan (same as Taurus, but better shroud and harness).
Im also going with Caravan coil pack to rid of the COP.

If the ZJ pump is too far out, then so would all the other components, right? I mean theyd have to be otherwise the pulleys wouldn't line up.

I plan to use my intake, harness, sensors, Speed Daddy header, 1995 XJ downpipe, and the items mentioned above. With that said, the remaining concern is if I can get away with the ZJ accessories, only for the sake of the tensioner. That and if they are the same part numbers, ie. extra AC compressor, alt, PS pump, etc

Thanks, but Im very much aware of this. I know the ZJ block will bolt right up. I should have been more clear and stated the engine is complete; all the way down to sensors. My bad.

The ZJ water pump snout is longer, but the water pump pulley is taller too. The belt still lines up as if it where an XJ.

Ah got ya! How does the XJ one compare?
Would its pulley work?
Does reverse rotation matter? Again, not using mech fan anyways

Same rotation, just a shorter snout and the pulley isn't as deep on the XJ pump.

Ok, so I picked up the 98. Now Im worried.

The oil filter is at an angle on both XJ's. Not so on the ZJ block.
Also, the oil filter location if a bit further back than on the XJ and theres no tap for the oil pressure sensor...
